Spoke to an assistant who said word in coaching circles is that Hurley is likely headed to Rutgers twitter.com/stevepoliti/st…

Hurley just makes too much sense for this not to happen. I think that Lonergan/Sendek and the other guys are good coaches too but Hurley has the NJ thing going plus with at the rapid speed this is moving he clearly really wants the job vs. Rutgers recruiting these other candidates on why they should take it. We are lucky to get this 2nd chance with Hurley and the other candidates are really on the same tier level but the local connection is why Hurley should get the nod on some of the other non-local names. Hurley will also bring the needed vigor and energy which the other candidates don't really provide. Rutgers can't be afraid of "energetic" coaches since Mike Rice was the last one. That is a very short sighted way of looking at it.

Let's hope the writers write it that way.

Someone told me last nite (Radio sports guy) that we should consider Bobby Gonzalez...GULP!!! I guess being a so called expert doesn't necessarily mean knowledgeable.

Well , if it's Hurley we can't complain . He had to be in the top 3 of realistic candidates on anyone's list .

If Hurley wants a 7 year deal, does he get it? Actually, the ESPN article announcing that he turned down the job in 2013 said he requested an 8 year deal.

I would guess any starting salary would be $1.5 million, the same as Ash.

This is the part I am not sure about.

I feel it's the other way around. Hopefully I'm wrong.

If it is Hurley I'll support him 100%, but kind of doubt Hobbs would let his choice leak before the agreement has been made.
Sounds like an intelligent guess by that assistant that Duggan is passing along to back up Politi's article that had Hobbs asking Rhode Island for permission to talk to Danny.
But also in the Politi article you can get to from Duggan's tweet > Hobbs has also requested permission to speak with George Washington coach Mike Lonergan,<
So I guess it's between those two and Hobbs was spotted talking to the agent that serves both
Lonergan & Hurley and also represents Ash.

If it's Lonergan , he has my full support as well.
Since I feel it will be Danny or Mike, I'll only bring up the positive aspects they bring to RU as a HC and not try to make either of them look unworthy of the RU MBB HCing position, because both have a lot of pluses going for them and dwelling an what I might consider a slight negative wouldn't be a productive way to treat the finalists for the RU HCing job in my opinion.

Was it Joe Benigno? That guy's the definition of an "expert".
