Is there any way Jim Delany can kick Maryland out of the Big 10? What a disgraceful program.
Well, he probably should work on Penn State and Mich State first. He may need to look at OSU some as well. Rutgers isn't far behind as well.

Seriously, if these universities won't do something then the Big Ten should step in. Durkin and the staff didn't take the proper precautions and allowed a guy to die.

@husker_kid32 any idea why this doesn't seem to be getting near the moral outrage TOSU AND Urban Meyer received? I mean we were both assured it had nothing to do with who it was about. It was the seriousness of what happened. I guess I can see that, the Maryland thing wasn't near as bad........

I saw just a few minutes of the Maryland vs Illinois game Saturday (3rd Quarter) and wow was their stadium empty. Embarrasingly empty.
It made me appreciate our loyal fanbase that much more.

Good to know where a person can get a job in case they ever accidentally murder someone.

Strange that. Surely it has nothing to do about who wins at a higher clip.

Can you imagine having to play for that guy next saturday? We've fired a 9 win coach, with a 70% winning percentage, 2 years removed from a national title game.........can't imagine they would sell their soul for Durkin?

Sounds like this was a power struggle between the Regents and the president of the University. The president wanted Durkin fired and the Regents wanted to keep him. Supposedly they told the president to either reinstate him or they would fire him.

Then this was either a pissing match for the sake of having one or the Maryland Regents are completely disconnected from reality. Neither would surprise me among high-level administrators in a university setting.

Way to suck, Maryland.

I guess President Loh(sp?) wouldn't even say Durkin's name at the press conference today. When asked about Durkin, Loh basically said to ask the AD. The BOR basically neutered the president to keep an embarrassment to the university. And now Loh is retiring next summer.

That sounds like a bad soap opera. It seems clear that at least a few Regents really wanted Loh out. Why else would they keep that nutjob? Three players walked out on his first day and are spreading the message on social media. More players are likely to follow as soon as they can line up a transfer.

Assuming the dust ever settles, how is Durkin going to recruit when any rival coach can suggest that "Maryland might not be the best school for Billy's well being."

It will be a spectacle to watch this blunder unfold until they're forced to correct.

As an aside, a good friend of mine named DJ has a very similar last name to his. Before I really knew anything about "coach" Durkin, I used to act like he and my friend were the same person. "Hey man, congrats. I heard you were announced as the new head coach at Maryland today. Should be a step up in pay, huh?" Crap like that.

I feel like I need to buy him a beer the next time I see him. Probably several.

At least part of the issue is financial, unfortunately. Maryland doesn't get its full share of the Big 10 revenue for 2 more years. Its athletic department is in terrible financial shape. Durkin's buyout is 5 million and the AD's is close to that amount. I haven't seen Durkin or the AD's contract, but people who have seem to think that Maryland would have a really difficult time in firing him for cause. So Maryland would have to either pay him the buyout from the get go or go into expensive litigation with a good chance they would lose and still have to pay the full buyout.
