I suppose this question could be posed on a number of boards, but I'm leaving it here ...

I've noticed that this year's Iowa-Iowa State contests in football, wrestling, MBB, and WBB have all been (or will soon be) played in Ames.

Is that normal? I admit I've never paid much attention to it.

Is it a good thing? A bad thing? How do we feel about it? (I mean, I assume next year's games will all be played in Iowa City?)

Not sure, it does seem kind of odd though (never thought much about it either). I would think you'd be better off splitting those events up every year at the different sites. (they used to do a Home and Home for Wrestling every year, but that ended awhile back).

Maybe COVID messed with the schedule? (not gonna research it - don't care that much 🙂).

I posted almost the exact some thing a second ago in another thread. I agree 100%.

This is how it's always been.

Odd years, the majority of sports are in Ames, including wrestling, mens and womens basketball, and football. Even years are in Iowa City.

Only exceptions are volleyball and soccer are flipped, and cross country is typically at varying sites wherever they end up at the same meet together (this year was in Stillwater). I'm guessing there is no standalone meet between the two programs for cross country.

Also fun fact, apparently we don't even try in men's cross country because Iowa has never bested Iowa State in a meet. 0-15

And women's cross country isn't much better at 2-13. Hell, even our redheaded step child of a women's volleyball program has 3 wins over Iowa State since this ridiculous Cy-Hawk series challenge began in 2004.

2025 is pretty embarrassing for the U. Gotta do better!
We lost 3 close events so far, all in Ames. Hardly embarrassing, since all were ranked at, near or better where Iowa was at the time. (so you either give them credit or fire everybody currently at Iowa)

I know I won't live long enough to see Iowa State have a better overall record against Iowa in basically any sport that matters.

It’s been an embarrassment this fall for the hawks

I have to keep reminding myself that we’ve been dominating most of the series so I really hope this isn’t a new trend

In the men's case, remember that Ben said that the program is in it's infancy. In the women's case, I'd agree. Especially after that 3rd quarter yesterday.

It's 1 year. You'll be fine, or not. But I know I will be.

In most of our lifetimes Iowa has beaten Iowa State 15 times in a row in Football, 20 in a row in Wrestling (important to Iowan's). Some of those we abused them in the process. That's far more "embarrassing" than what's happened in 2025.

Little context goes a long way. You're Welcome.

I meant the calendar year of 2025.

Yes, all "ranked at, near, or better than Iowa". Sure I give them credit.

But why are they all "ranked at, near, or better than Iowa"?

Because early season rankings are usually a farce? Let the whole season play out.

Can definitely tell little brother syndrome on full effect.

Pound them almost in everything for 8 years or so and it’s ho-hum.

They enjoy two years and have an aneurism sticking it to the Hawks. Pretty pathetic.

Losing to ISU in all these sports/events is absolutely embarrassing.

You’re just an Iowa homer. Nobody cares about the past.

Just because “15 times in a row” is a thing, that doesn’t make getting our butts kicked in 2025 is all fine and dandy.

Very embarrassing year for the university. Really hope all the teams take a good hard look at what they're doing. The only sport the Clowns are outright better than us in is Men's basketball. Football, wrestling, and women's basketball all should've been wins. We need to bring the thunder next year in every sport and put the Clowns back in the dirt.

We should move the football game to after Nebraska game! Early Hawkeye football = no offense
