Hey folks - hate to interrupt and ask this, but could sure use some prayers right now. Hubby is in the hospital; went to the ER this morning with a blood sugar level of 443; his A1C was 12.7.

He's been a diabetic for some years now, and we've controlled it pretty well - this jump came out of nowhere, really. To add to it, he had had a heart attack in 2004;, which means his risk of a "silent" heart attack is very high. They are doing all the necessary tests to make sure his heart is still ok.

Prayers and good thoughts are appreciated.

Holy cow thats high BKO. Your family is in my prayers. Diabetes is such an insidious disease and then gets so dangerous so fast sometimes.

Prayers being sent your way, Bev. Keep us informed, I know we barely know each other on this board (outside of posting) but we all kind of are like family and especially at times like this. Hang in there and hope all turns out great for you and hubby.

I have been fighting diabetes for 15 years now. Many do not realize the dedication and discipline to keep your blood sugar under control. He has my prayers and I wish him a speedy recovery and a quick trip home.

Hope all is well but if his A1c is 12.7 he has not been controlling it well. That is an average of 320 over the past 3 months.

Hopefully the cats do well tonight and keep the stress low. But if you want him around to see us catch UCLA, gotta get tighter control!

Aloha Bkocats....

I will be praying for your husband Bkocats and for His hand to be upon your husband. I pray that the sugar levels recede, that the A1C become normal and that his heart function is not impared. I believe in the power of prayer and that prayers are answered by Him.

Please let us know how your husband is doing.

With Aloha

Prayers for your husband.
Talking from experience, I have been diabetic for over 30 years.
It is not uncommon to have a sudden spike in blood glucose levels. If he has not gone wild on using sugar or alcohol, most probable cause for this sudden sugar spike is some kind of infection somewhere in his system. First thing to check would be a urine test to see if he has urinary track infection. This usually is related to prostate problems, or even a simple cold.
A few antibiotic pills will help, but the sugar level will still stay high for a while.
He will have to monitor his blood sugar levels at least four times a day, and stay in a strict diet for it to gradually reduce the
readings.

Good luck to him and to you. Don't worry, his doctors will give him the necessary instructions. No breads, no sugars, no alcohol or pasta, and it will go back to normal or at least a reasonable level.
