Could Greg Knox be a candidate for us?

I don't know much about him other than he was with Mullen here from 2009 till he coached us in the bowl game vs Louisville and he's with Mullen again at Florida so Dan obviously really likes him. Before that he was with Tubberville for 14 straight years so that's another HC that really liked having him around. Might be someone we are overlooking who knows MSU very well and all our recruiting ties. Is he HC material?

I like Knox, but if we’re going to hire from Mullens staff at Florida, it needs to be Grantham.

It has to be someone who has been here before because every coach that’s been here is a State fan.

so another GD experiment....Exactly what we need.....smh.
Why is it so damn hard for people to understand that we need to find a HEAD COACH? One with at least 3 years of experience.

3 years at any level? You got a list of appropriate ones that are viable and should be considered?

If not, this is just hand waving and being disagreeable.

Admittedly, I know absolutely nothing about who we should consider if JoMo is gone, or even if there is a coach better than JoMo available/possible this year for MSU? Or if Joe may somehow get a year 3 and pull it all together (signs aren't so good...)?

I'm just amazed at how many people are so certain that they have the right answers, without requisite experience or even viable suggestions, but more than willing to beat up on a guy who made an actual suggestion.

Head coaching in FBS. Hud, Napier, Norvell...etc Greg 17'n Knox reeks of poor ole Mississippi State ho hum mentality. "We have to think outside the box and find a diamond in the rough that maybe can build us into going to a bowl every year......" 17 THAT! I want a hard nose coach that has FBS HEAD COACHING experience and has proven he can turnaround a team.

Having seen no improvement in offense at all this year, I'm pretty much at the meh stage. No idea if anybody out there will for sure be better (but I don't guess you ever know until you try) and indifferent about Joe. Great guy, but I can't come up with any good reason for what I've seen/not seen on offense. NFL draft and tutor-gate provides me some solace on defense, plus I think that they have shown SOME improvement over the year. I fully expect Ole Miss to wipe us off the map on Thanksgiving.

I think Cohen is justified in doing whatever he chooses in the off-season, just glad it isn't my decision/job on the line.

If you wanted to hire Knox, you should have done it after after Mullen left. That would have been sort of a Dabo/Orgeron type of high risk hire. Who knows, stranger things have worked out before.

Problem is, you would not have had the benefit of the bowl game to see if he was any good. You had to get a new coach hired for recruiting.

Go listen to his media interviews after the bowl game. That will answer your question.

Link please cause I'm interested. He can't possibly sound more of a dumbass than the Gorilla at LSU. I was impressed in how we played vs Lamar Jackson & Louisville with our backup freshman Qb and a skeleton coaching staff. Knox has been under two total coaches over the span of 24 straight years so he's obviously well valued by two different quality head coaches. I think that alone speaks volumes for him. He's at least worth an interview imo.

You can't tell ANYTHING about someone who coached in 1 game they had a month to prepare for. There is a big difference in that and preparing week to week for opponents. Let's be honest, any coach on that staff could have led us to a victory in that circumstance.

I don't think Knox should have been the head coach obviously. But I also do not think "any coach" could have beaten Lamar Jackson and Bobby Petrino with a true freshman QB.

So who do you have? Hud, Napier, and Norvell all have head coaching experience in the FBS and have all accomplished what you claim as your checklist, sans one year for Napier, which lets face it, is going to be another good season next year. Well, maybe not, because he'll probably be leading a power 5 team somewhere.

I think what you really meant was that you want a P5 head coach -- and I've explained in great detail at least twice already why that is pie-in-the-sky untenable. So go ahead and throw out the names, and I'll link the post to approximately what it would cost us, which is an absolutely staggering sum at this point, especially with the 4 year contract limitation in MS. It's always funny when people say Rhule, Fleck, Satterfield, Klieman, Brown, etc because they've now proven something in the power 5, but that in and of itself makes them unobtainable. If you actually wanted them, you had to get them before they took their current jobs when there was still some degree of risk involved. Which is what Napier, Norvell, Hud, Fickell, Harsin, etc are now.

Lamar Jackson play defense too?? Like I said he had a month to 17'n prepare. He did NOTHING that tells me he could be a 17'n SEC head coach. Geezus it boggles my mind that you would want to go from Joe Moorhead to Greg 17'n Knox....LMFAO. How in the bloody hell is that an improvement?

I do. The players won the 17'n game. You really think he is responsible for us beating Louisville? Dan gets no credit for the other 12 games? hahaha

I like Greg Knox. Whatever credit you give him for the gator bowl, he was there and I don't remember anything negative about him while he was at state. But he's been so obviously well valued by two different quality head coaches that they've never even given hi a coordinator position? Two coaches you think are quality worked with him for a decade plus and didn't feel like he was a good fit for a coordinator position, and you think that recommends an interview?

Nobody said we wanted to hire him. We are just giving him credit for something he accomplished. Idiot.

I guess it depends on how serious we are about winning in football. Money shouldn't and isn't a problem

By all means, if you want to donate half the cost of the stadium expansion, which is about what it would take... then we will go get whoever. Personally I think throwing an extra $40million, 5x as much money, at a coach simply because he has a couple years of power 5 experience as a head coach is incredibly bad stewardship of someone else’s money. Especially when that experience provides for a minimal increase in the likelihood of success here. 500% the money for a 10-20% higher chance of success. But, like I say, if you want to write the check, I’ll damn sure get fired up about having the guy.
