Just watched a really cool story on Arthur Ashe’s brother. Maybe some of you already knew about this, but I didn’t.
His brother, Johnnie, was in Vietnam, while Arthur was serving at West Point. Apparently there was a rule that brothers would not be allowed to serve in nam at the same time because of how many families had all brothers lost in WW2.
Anyway, when Johnnie’s tour was about to end, Arthur would have still had enough time left to do a tour. He was at the height of his tennis career and Johnnie didn’t not want him to experience nam. He knew if he stayed and did another tour, that Arthur wouldn’t be allowed to go, so he went to his superior officer and asked to stay in Vietnam. Wow.....a brothers love. I thought it was a great story
