Conspiracy Theory.... Theory

Why would Bevin create a new board with little experience, (Besides successful experience in the business world), to suggest they belong on a major university's board of directors?
Why would said board target Pitino and Jurich the way they did?
Why would they admit a goal of de-emphasizing sports?
WHO is calling the shots?
With attendance at issue, in a devalued sports program... WHY have we not heard from the many big time business leaders, who would not take no for an answer regarding UofL's desire for an on campus arena, vs their desire for it to be downtown where it would enhance their various business interests? Don't they have a lot to lose here? Why have they remained silent?
Why the sudden revival of efforts to draw in the NBA, with Dan Issel involved?

SO... My theory is this... Pitino and Jurich were the biggest roadblock to earlier efforts to bring in the NBA. Many major boosters, and fans of the UofL didn't want it, so de-emphasizing UofL sports could help eliminate resistance to a renewed effort to lure the NBA. The folks who wanted the downtown arena are not speaking out, because they WANT the NBA down there at the YUM, and THEY are likely behind this blatant attack on UofL sports.... The NBA would bring more games, and they figure that combined with smaller UofL crowds for men's and women's basketball, would still be a huge improvement over just UofL at the YUM. It would create a set up in which the YUM would be occupied virtually every night, bringing crowds downtown spending lots of money... I think the last straw was when Jurich made comments about bringing UofL back to campus, and leaving the YUM... It was a power play, and they decided to put him in his place. That's my theory y'all... It's a big far fetched, but it's the ONLY thing I can come up with when it comes to trying to figure the WHO and WHY of all of this that actually makes sense.... Just thought I'd share.

If they want to bring the NBA in, let them. At this point, UofL has a strong position in a stable conference.

The Colonels' fans would mostly be UofK fans in the Louisville and Cincinnati area who can't get tickets to see their Cats play in Lexington.

We do need new leadership at UofL, though. That's for sure.

Yep, and the team wouldn’t last five years here, the team would draw very little fans from the state across the river.

It is obvious by now there is a concerted effort to diminish UL athletics. The nature of it is what is at question. I still wonder who funded McGee’s “ enterprise.”

Pacers ownership does not want a team in Louisville - that is a fact.
Neither do I for that matter..... BUT Dan Issel, and a lot of powerful business elite do want the NBA in Louisville. That's all that need be for my Conspiracy Theory to hold true.

The NBA is a long shot at this point even if the NBA was to expanded Seattle and then Nashville. If legalized gambling happens then Las Vegas would be a interesting option.

You don't take these kind of moves for a long shot. I am not sure why people throw Pitino in the mix, there is no way they could keep him after the FBI scandal was released. Fair or not Louisville just had their championship vacated under his watch. Then immediately had someone on his staff commit a major NCAA violation. People need to stop with the Pitino angle.

Jurich, I get, their handling of him makes no sense other than he was closely tied to Ramsey. Let's be honest if Jurich was still here the fanbase would not be this divided or upset Pitino is no longer here. They completely mishandled Jurich or at least we think they did based off no real information on why he was terminated.

They were already planning to get rid of Rick and Tom BEFORE the FBI probe came out. It was known that this was their agenda. The FBI probe just gave them an excuse to do something they clearly had already planned on doing....

If U of L's prior board and Ramsey had done their jobs properly none of this would have happened so I guess they are involved in the conspiracy too for intentionally being corrupt and negligent and allowing this to happen.

WOW, corrupt? I wonder when the criminal charges are going to be made public? Answer, they aren’t going to happen because there was nothing illegal about what Dr. Ramsey or the previous board did. Now, negligent is another matter. The audits have shown some negligence but no illegal activity THAT CAN BE PROVEN. I’d be very careful about throwing around the word corrupt so loosely. According to the director of the ULF the foundation assets are something like 750 million in cash and securities plus another 300 million plus in real estate holdings. I believe the final figure mentioned was something like a total of 119 billion. Now with the current “wonderful” (insert sarcasm) leadershiip we are losing millions from those figures DAILY. And by the way, it’s the real estate investments that started all of the crap in the first place.

Isn't the BOT responsibility to have a plan when one of their athletic programs has hurt the University with previous NCAA violations? The answer is yes. I am sure some on the previous board wanted Pitino gone after the Powell scandal. I am not surprised the new board had a plan to get rid of Pitino. The only issue with Pitino is they moved too fast and apparently violated his contract.

The valid question and we may never know is why they were planning on removing Jurich. I am not sure it matters at this point.

Whether criminal laws were broken or not by him personally, I think what Ramsey was doing was corrupt. The Board was clearly negligent in their oversight. Also there were several federal criminal convictions of university personnel during the Ramsey years involving massive embezzlements from the school and he seemed unable or unwilling to put procedures in place to stop them. I see nothing conspiratorial about either Ramsey or the Board being replaced.

Not to defend Ramsey.... Clearly, he spent a lot of money, and gave lavish bonuses and then hid this fact. BUT.... Perhaps he though the bonuses earned, and just didn't want to explain them? IF secretive was and hiding things were a crime, the current board should be doing serious time. What I'm getting at is a lot of folks are using words like embezzlement and such, but if Ramsey had in fact done something that qualified as ILLEGAL.... Wouldn't he be charged? There's a lot of heat on Ramsey on here lately, like he's the Riddler or something... Maybe in fairness, that kind of talk should be reserved for the day he's actually charged with something??? Not that I'm his biggest fan, but I hate to see a fellow's name drug through the mud, if it's not entirely true, and ESPECIALLY if it's being used to justify firing THE ENTIRE BOARD, and replacing them with a crew that has held half it's meetings in secrecy, and has fired Tom Jurich, and his son Mark unjustly, and has stated they intend to de-emphasize sports.... PEACE

A backdoor way of diluting the sports dollar in the local market w/o directly attacking UofL? Just thinking...............

Host has been on the NBA bandwagon every time it comes up. One of the big proponents of the Yum! being built downtown. Zipp even named the arena after him...... JHBOA.

That's exactly right and evidence that McCammon doesn't know WTF he's talking about. In essence, we're talking about stealing money. That's illegal, and there's restitution or damages to sue for. The FACT that Ramsey and others haven't been prosecuted or sued is ample evidence that nothing happened close to what's been alleged.

Money is at the center of the OP's conspiracy theory... The State wanted to get their hands on U of L's Foundation money which was separately managed by Ramsey and that board. And that's exactly the reason you don't wanna give U of L any money with these clowns in charge. You don't know what they're gonna do with it...

This has been my major point all along. It made zero sense. It was a bait and switch deal. However they will find it wasn’t UofL preventing a team from coming to Louisville, but rather the NBA.

I thought the audit pretty much cleared Ramsey of anything illegal. But question his bonuses and how he used the foundations funds.

Yeah.... That's exactly the point I was trying to make.... Several folks above are using words like embezzlement, which IS illegal.... I was merely pointing out that had he actually done something illegal, he would have been charged, so perhaps folks should NOT use such words... implying the man had done something illegal. Especially if they're using it to justify Bevin firing the ENTIRE BOARD, and all the subsequent negative things going on down on Floyd...

Well what the hell do you think we’ve got right now? Jeeze man these present guys came in bitching about “transparency” and they’ve done everything with zero, zilch, nada one bit of an effort to be transparent. THAT’S unethical in my book. And just think, we have to trust that these guys will make good hires for damn near every administraiive position of importance at our University. MikeMcCammon you need to get a grip and actually see the reality of our very ironic situation. By your standards we’ve replaced one “unethical” group with another “unethical” group. Improvement is NOT in the eye of the beholder but, rather, in the total reality of the situation and our reality sucks, period. I’d say if you have any sway with our esteemed govenor you should contact him immediately and “encourage” him to take serious action.

I think the decision to make Ramsey the President of University and Foundation was the real issue. He was a tremendous fundraising with very little oversight. In his mind he felt he earned that money or was entitled to that money. We can all argue over his compensation or how he distributed that money, but the real failure was how it was structured. It gave him entirely too much power and control.

For me that was the core issue with Jurich, he had far too much power and control of the athletic department. Jurich had very little oversight so when they whole Ramsey situation occurred the days of Jurich doing his own thing were over. When anyone has that much control over this kind of money it is great when things are going well, but when the $%^& hits the fan people invested or responsible are going to start asking questions.

The question with Jurich is could he have been as effective with a lot more oversight? He should have been an opportunity to figure that out.

You make some valid points. But this present “leadership” (sarcasm inserted) group has done exacatly the same thing by awarding themselves and Vince Tyra all of the power they resented in Tom Jurich. This is the height of hypocracy.

I agree. Ramsey was notorious for lack of internal control. That is how we had multiple million dollar embezzlements with federal criminal convictions at the university which Ramsey never seemed to address. Why would he institute better controls when the ones he had allowed him to pay himself and his staff millions of dollars under the table?

No argument, but at least he had the best interest of the University at heart. Not true with the current administration.

And if people want to talk unethical what about a governor who appoints an entire BOT illegally and here’s the unethical part with 4 graduates from our in state rival. And the latest is a WKU grad that lives in Lexington. Ethical?

I don't think it is fair to say the current board is out to destroy the University or they don't have the best interest of the University at heart. We don't have enough data to make that statement. Let's see who is brought in as President, AD and Head Coach. The things that occurred really shook the core of the University, the current board hasn't done that kind of damage.

I think it is safe to say Grissom and Postel won't be here long term. The reality is for Louisville to move forward they have to get a new President, AD and Head Coach. Once that occurs the healing can start and part of that would be Grissom departing.

Did he? Look where we are now because of his self dealing and greed.

Really? You must be very young because we would still be a commuter school without him. He built this University into a major university. And he has nothing to do with what’s occurring now. That’s on Posthol. He was the president when the Adidas deal took place. So shouldn’t he be removed? You don’t sound much like Card fan. Troll?

Keep your head in the sand that’s ok; denial is an option I guess. 582 days without a President. That’s should be the first indication. Second we can’t even get the members to show up for a meeting. Sounds like dedication to me. Right?

Graduated quite a few years ago. Ramsey gets way too much credit for "building" U of L. He came along at a time we were moving forward and athletics had a lot to do with that. We had been a sleeping giant for some time and Ramsey and Jurich for that matter figured that out. Ramsey came out of a corrupt state political machine and that worried me from the day he was hired. Unfortunately he retained that mentality and it brought him down and us with him. I think we could have done much better and hired someone who could have taken us forward and done so with integrity.

Really? You must be very young because we would still be a commuter school without him. He built this University into a major university. And he has nothing to do with what’s occurring now. That’s on Posthol. He was the president when the Adidas deal took place. So shouldn’t he be removed? You don’t sound much like Card fan. Troll?
He did tremendous things for the University, but shouldn't the board approve all salaries and bonuses? You do see the problem with one person making all these decision in a public sector job? A job that is accepting state and federal dollars where miss using funds is a significant problem for the university?

It sounds like you are OK with Ramsey doing whatever he wanted because he did great things at the University. In the private sector I get it but not in a public sector job.

It took that political machine mentally in this state to push UofL forward. And a President who allowed Jurich to do his thing. That’s not happening now and will see if we continue to move forward or even just hold our ground. UofL is and always will be the black sheep out in the state. And we must have a strong leader. You might feel it was moving forward but we’re not here today with the facilities, academic improvement, and in the ACC without Ramsey.

Having said that he made the mistake of to many people in that he let power go to his head. He also is the reason University Hospital is in the terrible state it’s in. For those reasons he did need to be replaced.

But Grissom who had a grudge against Jurich and Pitino went to far when he fired Jurich. I will never agree with that and as the Adidas deal unwinds will see it wasn’t necessary.

Pitino did need to go. To many issues.

Now I can support Tyra because I know through family that he’s a stand up guy who is 100% UofL. Will he be allowed to do his job? But the board not so much. We will see

I like Tyra as well. I think the biggest change occurring, which isn't a bad thing, is the AD position will have more oversight. What can't happen is too much oversight. The AD still has to have the freedom to build and maintain the program. We will just have to see.

No I’m not OK with doing whatever. But wasn’t that the BOT problem? And I didn’t have an issue with Ramsey’s firing for several reasons. And I didn’t have problem with some of the board being removed. However replacing the entire BOT and appointing 4 UK grads and a WKU grad that lives in Lexington is where I have issues. You should either be tied to UofL or at least the city in order to be on that board. And most certainly no in state rival graduates should be on our BOT. UK graduates/fans would never tolerate that if it was the other way around. So why should we. This BOT stinks of politics and has zero interest (At this point) of what’s best for UofL.

I don't think you need to be corrupt to move U of L forward. Ramsey and even Jurich were employees of the school and as such must be accountable to someone. Same goes for Pitino who was never held accountable for anything either because of the money he brought in. Unfortunately the board was weak and just a rubber stamp so they also failed us. This is not an either/or or a zero sum game. If Ramsey was the key to our growth he still should have operated within the proper boundary. The good things he did are now overshadowed by the bad and our basketball program has been gutted as part of that.

And Ramsey did operate within the boundaries for most of his time at UofL. Which is why I give him credit for what he did up until the unethical issues. And as I said earlier I had no issue with his firing but I will give him credit for what he accomplished. Jurich never fell into that corrupt category, he was a political firing. But I find it funny that you think the Commonwealth isn’t corrupt. The whole darn system is corrupt beginning with the governor. I don’t agree with it but it’s the times we live in.
