Is Tom’s feud with UT and OU coupled with his boss’s greed ultimately responsible for the conference chaos that ensued? There really hadn’t been much non-regional movement until NU left the B12. The conference situation is ridiculous now with the B1G and B12 spread virtually all the way across the continent. The travel is insane. I guess I’m nostalgic for the days when we had a more realistic shot at winning a conference title.

Tom and his boss did the right thing. In retrospect, they look like geniuses.

I miss the short trips to Lawrence, Stillwater, Ames, etc... but I find it hard to believe there are people who still want to be in the Big 12. They must not understand basic economics!

I live in the Phoenix area now, and I went to 3 ASU games last year. It would be nice to have NU come here for conference matchups. But, what's best for NU? It's not that!
With what happened after NU left it appears we landed in the best possible spot. Would the drastic changes have happened without our money grab though? I HATE the non-geographic scheduling. It makes zero sense.

As usual, the culprit for conference angst is Texas. Nothing happens in 2010 if Texas doesn’t seriously threaten to take the Big B12 south to the Pac 16.

Talking about what ifs. Imagine how the landscape today would be different if that had happened.

Yes. The drastic changes would have happened even if NU wouldn't have "grabbed the money".. (if only it were that simple, the disparity between the conferences wasn't that great at the time)
The idea that Nebraska was the catalyst to all of the changes that have happened with conference realignment is ridiculous.

I said Nebraska would drop out of national title contention when they moved to the Big 10. I based it on losing Texas as a prime recruiting area and tougher competition overall. It was easier to get Texas kids when we could promise them we'd play in Texas at least once a year. It seemed logical to me. The move to the Big 10 was based on other factors of course.

I agree with you on losing regional conference play. F'n money is really all it's about now. Everyone gets more of it except the fans. We pay more.

Naw Nebraska physically connects to the classic BIG through Iowa. I believe it started with West Virginia going to the big 12.

It only got crazy once Texas and Oklahoma went to the SEC. The fact is that college football is allowing the tv companies to dictate things. Until the conferences realize together they are far more powerful tv companies we are going to keep seeing them make decisions that only benefit their bottom line.

No I think it went crazy above and beyond when the B1G grabbed USC,UCLA,Oregon and Washington.

Left unsaid so far in this thread is Bevo's insistence on the Longhorn Network. UT's arrogance led to the disappearance of the SWC and then drove a stake in the heart of the B12 broadcast hopes. Screw UT.

We are blessed to be in the B1G. And then some.

Yeah, travel can be a *****. But if ya gotta travel, better to Ann Arbor, Columbus, LA or Seattle, than to f’g Lubbock, Fort Worth and Stillwater.

As for our success, or lack thereof, that’s an US thing, not a THEM thing. Time to turn things round. GBR!!!!

TO made the decision he had to at the time. Looked like UT & OU were going to leave for the SEC and the Big 12 was going to implode. I still can't believe they held together and are still a conference.
