I don't get it. Are they trying to trademark:

- the use of the word 'the' in any context???

- the use of the word 'the' in conjunction with a university or other institution name? I.E., "The University of Nebraska"

- the use of the word 'the' with "Ohio State University"? OK, this I can understand, although I have never and will never use the phrase "the Ohio State University".

My guess is your 2nd point, they are trying to trademark 'The' in front of Ohio State so that no other University can put 'The' in front of their name

I loved it a few years ago when Dayton knocked those arrogant blowhards out of the NCAA tournament, and the Dayton Daily News did this:

FWIW, Ohio State has some of the toughest and strictest copyright infringement enforcement by a pack of lawyers in all of college football. I'd say they are way above every other school in that regard. They constantly scour everything on the Internet to find even the most innocent infringement cases.

I believe Brady Hoke is the coach you're thinking of. He did do something Harbaugh has yet to do, beat Ohio State as head coach of Michigan.
Ah.. I think you are correct. Harbaugh had OSU beat in 2016 but the refs gave a first down to Ohio State when Michigan clearly stopped them on 4th down to win the game. But again, couldn't have happened to a better guy......

Edit: Was Hoke's only victory against OSU when they had their off-year in 2011 with Luke Fickel as coach?

It’s rough when your main rival is a top 10 team every year

Ask Tom Osborne - TO was 2-12 against OU when OU came into the game ranked in the top 10

2-12. I had no idea it was that bad. Someone can double check - I hope my calculations are way off

https://www.espn.com/classic/s/ou_neb_record.html

In 13 of those 14 games - Nebraska was also ranked in the top 10. In the other game we were ranked 11th

In the entire history of the series Nebraska has beaten a top 10 ranked OU team - 5 times

OU has beaten a top 10 ranked NU team 16 times

In the entire history of the series, when both teams entered the game in the top 10 - Nebraska is 5-13 (includes 2001 game not included in above link)

An unranked OU team has beaten a top 10 NEB team 3 times. The reverse has never happened

I think there was a slight made toward them on Golic and Wingo which i did not catch at the time but now I do...Jason Fitz mumbled "trademark" after an OSU story...

There are 2 threads discussing this

I posted in the other thread Michigan trolling them by claiming they are going to trademark the word OF

I'm sure they want to sell merchandise with only the word "The" on it. Yes, it's arrogant, but that's what leaders do. They've been very successful at getting their athletes to all say "THE Ohio State University" in introductions and in reality, it has stuck.

Osu is osu.
They need to know enough if I'm talking about osu (okie lite) osu (Nebraska west) or osu, the one from ohio.
Otherwise, I dont care until they step in it through them not understanding it.

Nebraska should quickly trademark the "-" in University of Nebraska - Lincoln before someone else grabs it.

The Ohio University is actually older then The Ohio State University and both have used "The" through out the years it has been discussed during this news out of Columbus.

I think "THE" is more to differentuate them from the other OSU's out there such as Oregon State, Oklahoma State. Are there any others?

But in the time it takes to type the pretentious little italicized “t” can’t you just type Ohio State?
