Please provide some factual info that Jenni wanted the Iowa job.

Good request. People who claim to know her have posted in the past that she surely wanted the job while at Drake, but that changed after landing and being happy at Oklahoma.

I would have preferred that Beth G see if Jennie B was open to taking the Iowa job, but am skeptical that she would have been willing to leave Oklahoma so early in her tenure. For all we really know, Beth G may have believed she knew what Jennie’s answer would have been. Perhaps her answer might be different at some point in the future after she tires of battling the SEC juggernauts.

The bigger the game, the more likely it becomes that Jan overthinks things, shorten the bench, and inhabits the performance of her players. This is inexperience as a head coach. She's a great coach but sometimes she needs to just get out of the way and let her players bring home the W. Have faith in your players and quit trying to control the game.

I don't think coach J was standing in the way on the wide open missed shots or any of the missed FFs. All coaches whether in their first year or 20th year will make mistakes and any coach that tells you different is flat out lying. A team will make a coach look great and not even notice the mistakes they may have made or it can go the other way, that's why you are never satisfied as a coach you always want better no matter how you played and just like your expectations for your players you follow the same rule to make yourself better and i'm pretty sure the whole staff will.

The only thing nagging at me is Iowa's inability to get off a good shot at the end of regulation and in the first OT. The team did not seem ready in those two situations. I am sure they will work on that over the summer - the coaches and the players.

OK, what was it? Have to anticipate defense is going to take away the interior so what is called to free up someone else for a dive to the basket or open jumper?

Watch a replay of the last 10.4 seconds and partway through notice where Ava is and if she has position and notice where Chit Chat is at that exact second and see if you can tell what play may have been called.

I agree but I've watched a hundred games over the years, men and women, different teams, that fail to get a good shot off as the clock is running out. It happens to everybody and it happens a lot.

I do not know if Beth may have reached out to Jenni. Those things many times do not get made public.

the only option at that point was a pass to the wing, who’s defensive player was over playing waiting for an interior pass…..looked like they had never practiced this and did not know how to react.

The pass to the post was wide open for a second if the ball was thrown in on time and Johnson knew where Kylie was at in the corner.

The offense changed completely with Jan and her force the ball inside mentality and that isn't going to work on it's own but that seems to be all she wants them to do......this is a guards game anymore in today's word and you aren't going to get them to come to Iowa when they watch the **** offense you run along with garbage inbounds plays and terrible sub management.....Jan just is lost as a head coach more often than not and it shows
It is odd they seem to run ONE inbounds play ALL the time. Throw the ball in the corner and the inbounds passer comes around that player and catches the ball between her and the sidelines. Doesn't really make much sense. Its also easy to trap her there between the baseline and the sideline as extra defenders.

In Jan's defense, When McCabe went down, they lost one of their better 3-point shooters so she naturally went to the next best thing going for the team. Many here hoped that Addie would be the person to step up for McCabe but being a freshman that didn't transpire.
What we seen yesterday was the result of the McCabe loss. Virginia did a great job of taking away the post pass game to Heiden resulting in only the outside shot which Iowa lost a lot off in the McCabe injury. Free throw misses greatly hurt us also.
Iowa needs to get help in the portal to get outside shooting. Incoming recruits could play a big factor along with the development of our younger players coming up. Jan is not going to be fired over this season. This team went farther than most expected and so with help with recruiting and the portal they could be very good next year and the future.
Still NO team OR player at this level should miss half their free throws, especially not over several games or the season. that's just not acceptable.

A verticle pass from the key to the low post is not a pass that is often going to be successful. If a pass is going to go to the low post there needs to be an angle. BB 101.

Ava was open and the play was there is all I'm saying. Of course all plays don't always work and Ava was 11 of 22.

I realize what you are saying is considered a no-no according to almost everyone. I have always questioned this if done correctly. I believe if your low post buries her defender in front of the basket and the passer has the basket, the receiver, and the ball in a straight line it can be a great action. You will not have defenders in a good help position and the receiver can read which way to turn.

key phrase here, “bury her defender in front of the basket”. almost any pass works if the defender is blocked off under the basket.

Her being a one trick pony as assistant does not mean a good coach. She lacks in game strategy that’s very apparent.
