The coaching carousel is not as interesting as years past....I am not sure why but I think the path of patience is what matters the most.
If you are Indiana, you gave Archie Miller 4 years....when was the red flag up on Archie.....was it Year 1 at MSG vs RU....was it Year 2, just missing the NCAAs.....Year 3, I think IU would have made it (but covid19 hit) and would that have changed the donors to keep him for Year 5???
Minnesota and PSU....do they have a full commitment to win....I think Minnesota does, but PSU is still a "not sure".
The whole extension game is really the interesting part....Willard secured an extension from SHU by being attached to the Virginia Tech opening.....if you are Porter Moser, are you expected to dance in 3 years at DePaul.....4......??.....5..???? That seems like a tough rebuild.
I think the expectations get raised and every program has to now make a decision on not just coaching staff but is this coach the right fit for the location, fanbase, alumni??
Pittsburgh hired Jeff Capel and he has had 4 transfers out since late February and may have 5 ships open....and recruited 3 4* kids in 3 years.....all 3 kids have since transferred....if you are Pitt and don't win next year while replacing the Kevin Stallings mess left behind, do you give Capel another 2 more years.....3... .??
It's not very chaotic for RU fans right now....because we have stabilized the program....if transfers happen after this season, it used to be considered a death sentence.....now.....???? it's an opportunity to improve your roster.......
Pikes extension last year has essentially eliminated any noise of his name coming up for other jobs.....and the later you extend a coach, the more expensive it typically is.....
I think the one job that could open, that hasn't been mentioned is Miami.....something seems to be missing down there.....
