Given the timing maybe Cooper giving us a commitment sealed the deal. He has done a stellar job so far, but expectations will be higher this year and next.

Maybe the other way around. Maybe Duke, and Coach Scheyer, felt that it was important for recruits to see that Scheyer isn't going anywhere.
