Watching BTN last night the talking heads suggested Pikiell should be considered for COY.

Its nice they said it but not happening. Little Ricky's team finished a notch above RU in the standings last year and are NCAA bound...Northwestern is likely to go to the NCAA for the first time ever. Pike has done a great job but going 2-16 or 3-15 isnt going to get him COY

Yeah. He's done a good job but he's not the coach of the year. Doesn't matter because he will be and we will win a championship with our coach

Agree ... Coach P has done an outstanding job this year. You can REALLY tell the difference of what coaching has done for the team, even though the results have not yet turned. But I don't think they are far away at all. I love watching the games this year (the last two years I thought many HS teams were better basketball to watch than us). I'm finally excited for RU basketball again and this has been a fun year. I can't wait to feel how fun it is when we start winning some big games and get closer to .500 in conference play.

Still 5 games left but I'd have to go with Collins or Turgeon at this point. Collins getting Northwestern to the tournament is historical and Maryland is probably one win away from being the favorites to win the conference which I don't think anyone saw coming with the number of freshmen Turgeon is playing this year. As things are going right now, I'd have to go with one of those two.

I think everyone in the league recognizes what Coach Pikiell walked into and the improvements he's already made. I think he will be a top candidate when he takes Rutgers up to .500 in conference or above in the next couple of years.

.......between 2 Rutgers fans.

Slap in the face to Pitino, Collins, Turgeon, Gard, and Painter.

My comment was to the OP. I saw the conversation on BTN. They didn't say he should be COY, they said he should be in consideration. They mentioned all those other coaches first as COY candidates, then said Pike should be considered.

It's going to be Collins but Turgeon is going to get votes too depending how MD finishes. They were picked to finished 10th in the conference and now have a real chance to win the regular season title.

Excellent combination of realism and optimism in this post.

Should go to either Minny or Northwestern coaches, particularly if Northwestern makes the NCAAs for the first time.
Pike should be in the discussion for sure. Don't think he is COY though. If we won four or five more conference games then, yes.

I think Little Ricky gets it.

Giving it to Pikiell would also make for a difficult award presentation, and would be somewhat of a back handed compliment to the players. More or less it could only be announced saying that RU is so offensively challenged, its just amazing we were even competitive in the games. Since those guys played so damn hard it must have been good coaching. While all true, this would never merit an award ceremony.

The discussion between the 2 BTN analysts mentioned all the coaches mentioned here for COY. When the discussion was dying down, one of the analysts said that Pikiell should be mentioned specifically because of how this team plays compared to the previous few years.

That was the extent, the analysts never said he is the COY or should win it.

Segment was called I think I'm alone - ie what do you think that no one else is thinking - Shon did say Coach P should be in the mix, not that he should win it. Hence my original post which said he "should be considered".

just stop. honestly. yes, Pikell and staff has done a good job but that would be quite an indictment IMO about RU mens' hoops if he were to win with a 3-15 or close record...

For the record, I thought Rice in Year 1 did a brillant job, had excellent wins, and did well recruiting-wise. I also agree that the talent was better in comparison to this year's team.

Nah Collins if he makes NCAA hands down. Not even close. You take a school that has never been to NCAA tournament you get it.

Pikiell is doing a decent job, but remember he looks good because how bad of a job Eddie Jordan was doing.

We have competitive losses. Lots of them. Wins? Not so much. I like what he's got out of the current squad.

Get 7 b1g wins next year with basically the same talent and I'll be calling for COY. I don't see any shooting numbers improving so it will mean that the team is playing smart and not giving away possessions.

Being sloppy with the ball and shooting poorly (2's, 3's, ft's) equals losses against quality programs.

Again, the analysts DID NOT say he is the COY. Basically they were giving him a mention because they feel he has done a good job, compared to what the team looked like the last couple years in the B1G.

I think Collins will win Big Ten Coach of the year unanimously with a strong shot at national coach of of the year.

He has done a nice job here, no an outstanding job on the Banks. But, I not sure with our record if he is the COY. But he should be in the conversation, I am so glad he is here.

I mean even if Maryland wins the B1G ten with 3 starting freshman, I still don't think that's as good of a job as going to the NCAA tournament for Northwestern.

They have NEVER been in a hundred years lol.
