Wondering if anyone knows why we don't play Cincinnati regularly. Seems to me that it would make sense regionally. Looks like they played pretty regularly up until 1948, but now only twice after 1990 (and those were tournament meetings). I know it'd probably be a lopsided series, but again, I always thought it made sense regionally. Anyone got anything?

http://www.enquirer.com/bearcats/1998/12/20/uc_24-11.html TL;DR: Cincy was overmatched and played stall ball the entire game against a really good Joe B team. Not included in the article is that supposedly Joe B was so incensed that he insist they never play in Cincy again.

Then in the coming years, cincy got more of a garbage program, hired thug lover Bob Huggins, had brawls, hired jerkass Mick Cronin who Cal hates, and basically their program is 100% below us at not worth our time or attention.

Some UC fans I know are full of pent up rage over the success we've had over the years. Excepting their run 50 years, ago their short period of success in the early 90's (built with a rogues gallery of miscreants) gave them the mistaken impression that they were a blueblood. If you think the treatment we got in Bloomington was bad, try Clifton.

This would be hard to understand if you don't live in the Cincinnati metro area. We co-mingled with these fans at workplaces and the rancor that existed here would run a close second to UK/UL fans in Louisville, except with a lot more people.

I'd rather see us play Purdue...or Notre Dame every year than Cincy. I think we should schedule Purdue in football too.

A few reasons.

The 1983 game. It's been well-documented.

Location. Cincinnati is inferior in every way to Kentucky. There are more fans in their own city of UK (and maybe UL) than UC. Most non-UK fans in the Tri State area can't stand UK and we would be doing nothing but giving them potential satisfaction and ego by playing them. UK already dominates the region with fans, recruiting and history, there's no reason to play them, especially if they don't provide a legit non-conference game every year (which they don't, at least not better than any other game UK could get).

There are plenty of other regional rivalries that have come and gone. Indiana. Notre Dame. There are others we could start up that could offer as much or more than Cincinnati. Ohio State, Purdue and Illinois come to mind, especially if we aren't playing Indiana anymore.

Who do we drop to play them? This year we played MSU, UCLA, UL, UNC, KU. How many OOC ranked teams should we play? What's the advantage of playing them? Benefits us none and then tremendously.

I was at the 24-11 game. F Yousee

Tangentially related, I would love to see an Ohio State series. Not much farther away, they're usually top 40, and I like Thad Matta.

This is oh-so true. It's as bad as any fan base out there.

There are a least a dozen teams more deserving of a series with Ky than Cinn.
