Ohio State were the huge favorites to win the B1G before the season even started. Clemson was in the ACC. Alabama was in the SEC. So what?? Should we not play any games at all? What a moron.

Has this guy never heard the phrase "defense wins championships?" Yes, Buckeyes put up over 600 yards of offense, and yet they still almost lost their game to Indiana.

Despite everyone pandering to “defense wins championships,” everyone also seems to rank high scoring undefeated teams much higher than, say an undefeated team who is giving up 2 PPG in the second half including 4/5 second half shutouts.

Football "Expert" Jesse Spector of Deadspin : https://deadspin.com/what-has-this-...ting&utm_campaign=dlvrit&utm_content=deadspin

And yes, I already contacted him to tell him how poorly written and one sided that was.
To be clear, this is zombie-Deadspin and has nothing to do with the website that existed for the past decade or so. all those folks now write at Defector.com. The current Deadspin is the hollowed-out husk left behind after the VCs ruined it.

Right...though many here dismissed the old Deadspin out of hand, I found it entertaining and with some good writers. This...is something completely different.

Deadspin is pure trash and has always been. I won’t even click on it to give them the views. They’re the worst.
Deadspin today is pure trash, and nobody should ever click on it. (For a time, I had accidentally continued following it on Facebook, and I did get joy out of commenting STICK TO SPORTS on occasion.)

The original deadspin was a beautiful ray of sunshine on the internet, offensive only to puritans and right wing snowflakes.

Viva la revolucion!

And many of the curated comments were witty.
Yeah, that whole gang of writers and commentors moved to Defector, though it's behind a paywall now since the website is owned by the writers themselves. I think it's roughly $6/month to subscribe.

True. Some of the commenters became well-known staff writers even. I believe Drew Magary got his start that way, but I could have him confused with someone else.
He did, though he also contributed to a different blog at the time called Kissing Suzy Kolber before becoming a writer at Deadspin.

Incorrect. My right-wing snowflake sons loved it. They used to talk about it all the time. One is a writer. The other one won’t get me a beer during the game.

The early deadspin stuff can be pretty hard to read. Lots of low/high-level misogyny — the same kind of stuff that they made right-wing blog enemies over later.

Though Barry Petchesky and Tom Ley were great leadership in the latter days / takeover days / STICK TO SPORTS days, Northwestern/Medill’s very own Tommy Craggs took that thing from a funny and incisive site to a g-d journalism powerhouse.

The Manti Te'o fake girlfriend story was broken on Deadspin I believe. That was a great story. There have been other big stories broken by the old Deadspin crew, and their "Adults in the Room" story (which ultimately got many of them fired) was a bold "bite the hand that fields you" feature.
