My deeper dive into recruiting since 76 would indicate that the 5 chief recruiting rivals historically are in order:
UConn St. John's Seton Hall Nova and UMass.

UMass disappeared when Calipari left.Rutgers biggest wins have been Douby over SJU, Montez over UConn and Cliff over everyone. I see this narrowing going forward to UConn on relatively equal footing with a slight advantage and I am visualizing some wins going forward over Nova. No longer can Jay Wright pick-up the phone and eliminate Rutgers as a contender. There are no discernible Big Ten recruiting rivals except an occasional battle with the Terps.

Nova's on another level right now, last time we could reasonably expect a win here and there was the Rice era. imo.

Echenique was a huge get

I say advantage RU over UConn now....for many reasons....league, Pike, momentum, facilities and students.

The data says otherwise. Yes we got Mathis, but in 2020, they got 4-star PF Adama Sanogo, and in 2021, they got 4-star Rahsool Diggins (who Pike wanted badly) and a 4-star C from Elizabeth, Samson Johnson.

UConn is now back in the Big East, they have a “name” coach, great facilities, and a winning history that includes RECENT national championships.

They are going to be a problem for us in recruiting for a long time.

I’m not sure we have a recruiting rival
In basketball right now

Maybe Villanova if we can actually
Win a couple of battles with them ....problem
Is we lost Eric Dixon (Abington...a Philly burbs kid), rashool Diggins (Warrington...a philly burbs) and tre Patterson (from our backyard)

0 for 3 right now ....

If you look at last two years top recruits for us were what I would call national recruits. Cliff and Jaden. They are at RU. We need at least one 4 star per class going forward. Likely two. Because of their history UCONN will be formidable. We should be better choice. Will have to prove it

In theory, RU has two very good options for kids in area and out of area.

Play in a very good or borderline best conference if you're not from the tristate area and capitalize on a media market that really doesn't have a huge fan base for college hoops.

If you are in area or region, you can be a kid that doesn't get an ACC offer but want to play in a big league. I don't quite understand how UConn impacts RU, since they're not in the same league.

UConn impacts St Johns, Seton Hall, Providence and Nova to a lesser extent. That essentially aids RU in the region because RU plays in a different league and UConn weakens St John's Seton Hall and Providence. The Sanogo recruitment was a huge loss for Seton Hall, not RU.....RU landed Cliff and Sanogo may have picked SHU if not for UConn being back in the Big East. It's really been Mathis, Mulcahy and Cliff for RU over UConn, all 3 had UConn offers. If RU and UConn continue to have some of the same targets, some RU will win, some they wont.
