I think they have Rhule correct. A warm seat simply means this is a year he needs to show improvement and if he doesn’t then next year his seat will be hot.
3 brand new coordinators (extremely rare for a retained HC)

not sure it will be fair to judge any result next season

Purdue, WVU, and WF are room temperature despite their coaches not having walked on their sidelines once?

I predict USC to cool down, as well. Riley is a helluva coach.

OU fans are hilariously delusional. I hope they scrape together a slightly improved season so they can convince themselves to keep Venables another year.

Lol Ryan Day can’t even get on the “iceman” (stupid categories) list after winning the National Championship 🤣

Funny to see Fickell on the “scorching” list. I knew they were disappointed with him so far, rightfully so, but I didn’t really consider him on the hottest of hot seats.

Room temp is comfortable. I guess the view from one national pundit is Nebraska's expectations are lower than past decades.

if you were to Google Mike Gundy the words hot seat auto populate after his name
He’s room temp? Boosters and administration was looking for cause to can him last year
He’s a man, he’s 57

i think if they felt like they could hire Zac Robinson they absolutely would.

Oklahoma State fans have a very inflated sense of where they stand in the CFB world.

if they didn't have Gundy the past two decades they'd be a worse Texas Tech.

Obviously, Rhule is on neither end of the spectrum. The proverbial glass half full, or half empty. Next season is important.

Rhule is one .500 or worse season from being on a tremendously hot seat.

if he wins 6-7 games this year, his seat should be scorching hot.

it would convey that much like how he couldn't succeed in a league with free agency, he can't in a league with the transfer portal and everyone would have to accept that his 11 win season at Baylor was a flukey outlier.

our guy is too high, IMO

I agree. And I'm also wondering why Georgia Tech's coach isn't near the bottom of the hot seat list. Two straight 7-6 seasons, but they beat Florida State and Miami and lost to Georgia in OT by two. That guy is coaching his *** off if you ask me.

If he wins 6-7 games with the easiest schedule in 30 years, he should be fired. I expect 8-5 (with a bowl) and the termination will be in year 4. Only in Nebraska would you hire a coach to "rebuild" a program in an era that no one can rebuild a program with NIL. Always behind the times, not to mention that Rhule is not a very good coach. This is quite apparent from what I have seen on the field in the last 2 years.
Wish him luck, though. He is going to need it.

You can go back to the frost years and say “easiest schedule in 20 years”. Get over it.

Frost should’ve been fired after his 3rd year

Not sure this makes the point you were hoping

Also I believe Rhule could go 0-12 this year and keep his job

I'm fine with Rhule, the coach. Honestly his style was likely what Nebraska needed in back in the 2010s. But, he absolutely destroyed Trev Alberts on this contract. He wasn't worth this much money. It's not like he won a conference title/national championship before he left college.

I agree - I was just saying for the past 8 years - we have said it’s the easiest schedule ever. It’s an overused term because historical bottom feeders are better due to the changing landscape and more talent migrating to the power 2 conferences.

There is no way Rhule would go winless this year and not be fired or resign.

Head coaches for the most part are CEO's, not all head coaches are great at coaching certain positions. It's all about who you assemble around you, and Matt Rhule didn't do a great job out of the gate. I will say Matt has done a pretty good job of re-setting his coaching rooms recently. With the money Nebraska has invested in Rhule you won't see him kicked out of Lincoln, like it or not it's Rhule or bust. jmo

TBF the 2021 schedule was actually difficult.

Seems about right. Not winning with DR and DH in year 2 would be a pretty huge fail, unless the defense melts down.

Turns out he made bad choices for some of his assistants plus some people did bad things to create problems. Coaches getting arrested shortly prior to start of fall camp resulted in having to bring in guys that weren’t the best suited. And who knows if it’s true that initially he was wanting to have Mickey as his WR coach…..but what he ended up with was a major downgrade.

Virtually ever media outlet reported it as such. So I would say we do know it’s true.

To go from Mickey to an inexperienced young man was a big issue for Rhule. But he had plenty of time to find someone other than McGuire.

I don’t disagree. Just pointing out he did want Mickey to be his WR coach.
