Does Nebraska have any interest in this LB? He is listed at 6'2, 220 and has committed to play for the Air Force Academy. He also has an offer from Wyoming from what I have heard. Is Nebraska in on him at all, even as a preferred walk on? He obviously has some skills and is worthy of a close look if at least two, and maybe more, schools have offered him.

I bet Nebraska will see some of his film this fall and see how he has progressed from his Junior year to Senior year. Congrats to him on getting an offer Air Force, that's impressive. I hope he does well in Colorado Springs.

Also, random side note. HCC always has huge kids. Year in and year out they have 6'0 200+ players on their roster. It's impressive.

Perhaps he reneged on the Air Force because he didn't want to pursue that type of disciplined existence in school. Its easy for us adults to have 20/20 hindsight and say a kid is silly for not taking that offer. But that's a significant commitment for an 18 year old.

Everything is good with the AF and Hillis. He completed his application, the coach visited him on 5 Dec in his home, he's excited about the opportunity. His Dad is a 30 year retired military man, his Mom was a physician in the Navy so he should understand what a military life is like. I know he is also excited that Lane McCallum from Norfolk has committed to AF because they played basketball together for a couple of summers.

Thanks for sharing. Sounds like a great fit for all parties. Congrats to those young men!

Looking through saw this so I thought I would update. Due to a medical condition (type 1 diabetes) Hillis had to leave AF Academy. He is now at South Dakota, where as a freshman eligibility wise was a junior academically. Had something to do with the military and the AF academy for eligibility. This year at South Dakota he played in all 12 games, started one. Was 12th on the team in tackles and led the team in special teams tackles. Info from his bio on their roster page. He will be a senior this year and still only in his sophomore year for eligibility purposes.
