Hip surgery is never good. Hopefully it didn’t involve a partial or total joint replacement.

Really hate to see a talented young man be injured. Hoping he recovers well and this is only a bump in the road for him.

Guessing FAI?? I hope??

...1000% full recovery if true..sucks but will not affect him at all when he recovers.

.....basically a bone that should be perfectly round, but isn't, and it irritates the gasket it seats against (labrum) so they go in and polish it to where it should be....gotta be that if it wasn't a football injury...i'd think...they do have to seperate the femur from the hip socket and that's a pretty knarly ordeal, hence the long recovery....not sure if he'll hit full speed anytime soon, but he should hit it again.

Will not slow him down in the least if i'm right and the surgery is successful.

Our luck with keeping top athletes healthy is kind of ridiculous. Medical advancements are amazing and you can bounce back when you're young, but damn.

Wonder if next year ends up a redshirt for him.

Is that genetic?

I wonder what kind of hip surgery
I would guess either a torn labrum or repair of a congenital impingement. I played sports until my early 40s when I was diagnosed with premature osteoarthritis either from a congenital impingement or an undiagnosed fractured femoral neck as a kid. Fix the impingement early and you can head off premature deterioration of the joint. I had that hip replaced on my 50th birthday. Always knew I didn’t have the same flexibility in that hip that I had with my normal hip.

True. Rex. TMart. AMart. Every Offensive Tackle we’ve ever had.

But this year was relatively low on injuries

I read elsewhere that it was the labrum, it has been sore all season. He will miss the spring and is expected back for June workouts.

That sucks

Will make it even more difficult to find a home at a specific position

We are thin as it is at pass catching positions

Hope for the best for him. He’s definitely had best of the best surgeons and after care.

We are devoid of real talent across the board on offense, except at QB, but even there we have no depth. Our offensive line looks to be really very mediocre next year. And there are no difference makers at the skill spots. Have we added anyone from the portal to the offensive line?? We are staring at another 6-6 type year without upgrades on the offensive line.

It’s arthroscopic these days, not a surgical dislocation. Thank god. The recovery sucks because the surgical takedown of the cam lesion weakens the bone and can be a risk of a fracture. That and any labral repair takes forever to heal

Not always arthroscopic.

Pretty much always arthroscopic these days. There are maybe a few select cases where open may be needed. And even then it’s usually a combined approach. Rarely people need a PAO instead of a cam lesion resection which is completely different. Arthroscopic has similar outcomes, lower revision rates and faster return to play. No way Carter got a full open surgical hip dislocation.

I have a feeling there will be more “thank goodness for HH” posts coming than people thought a few years ago.

NU has added WR talent. It appears the coaches disagree with you on OL talent, as they are not portal signing for depth, but are trying for a high quality OT out of Wazzu. Donnie must think he can get his young blue chip talent ready. Word is that portal RB talent is thin. Maybe the staff likes what the Parker kid has to offer.
I suspect there will be a reassessment after spring ball.

The Wazzu lineman is the only one we seem to be after. And he is by no means a lock for us. Michigan and Wake Forest are in the mix. His old coach is now at Wake. If we land him it will be huge. We need to trot out some serious NIL money! I am sure we probably are.
I agree that it appears that our coaches are content with what we have on the offensive line. But we do seem to lack depth and the talent is very inexperienced.
I am just in wait and see mode, and “prove it to me” mode.
Hopefully these guys light it up next year and gel into a great line. Time will tell. Thanks for the response.

Edit: as for WR talent I am in a wait and see mode as well. We heard the same thing last year about our transfers. And they turned out to be average at best. I sure hope Demetrius Bell comes back strong!
