Carprofen and dogs

Anyone else's dog had a bad reaction to carprofen? We've had two now--our old mastiff who ended up with pancreatitis when she was around 8 (she made it to 12), and now our current mastiff who will be 8 in August and just spent most of the week at the vet with acute renal failure (which we've reversed, thank God) and a really bad case of pancreatitis. I know that this kind of side effect is supposedly really uncommon, but has anyone else had these problems or is it true that animals in my family are JUST that special?
