Cards defeat Morehead St 7-3

Cards got off to a slow start against Morehead St trailing 3-0 going into the bottom of the 5th. Sparger started and gave up 4 hits 3 runs. 8 different pitchers pitched tonight. Chittenden led the offense with 3 hits and 3 rbis. Rosenbaum had 2 hits and 2 rbis. Crain, Sturgeon and Kay also had 2 hits apiece and Ray had 1 hit and 2 rbis. Filomeno had 2 strikeouts in 1.2 innings of relief.

Great opportunity to get a lot of pitchers on the mound. Love seeing Chit hit the ball that well. I'm sure also CDM was pretty happy about Ray's dinger over the rt field wall.

Good to see some runs and power vs. Morehead. Ray's HR really was unexpected, I can't remember the last home run that I have seen this year at home. Our batting stats are way down with a lot of .270's and little power through the whole lineup. Hitting can be cyclical, here's hoping we are warming up for a postseason run. Pretty solid defensively in the 2 games so far this week, too, with Whiting making some spectacular plays at SS.

I'm encouraged by the starting pitching w/3 solid weekend guys and Rogers emerging as weeknight starter. Bullpen is strong, but we need to get McGrath (having a great year) back. Joe Filomeno looked great Wednesday and would be a key lefty out of the pen. Maybe its time for some of those sophomores to step up in middle relief.
