Going to Omaha has to put us near the top. Does anyone know if winning the CWS would seal the deal? Im not sure how the point system works.

My understanding of the Capital Cup, from an IU perspective

Point values are 60, 36, 30, 24, 18, 15, 12, 9, 6, 3

Track & Field is now complete and Texas A&M and Florida both picked up big points with a tie for the championship.

1. Texas A&M 88
2. Florida 86
3. Duke 82
4. Alabama 80
5. Indiana 76
Michigan 76
7. Louisville 66
Syracuse 66
9. Oregon 65
10. Notre Dame 62

===================
North Carolina 36
UCLA 32

I underestimated the success baseball would have and making it to Omaha makes the Cup a reality now...Assuming making it to the College World Series secures a top 8 final ranking, it would give us at minimum 85 points. Teams that we are in competition with are Texas A&M, Louisville and North Carolina. UCLA would have to win the National Championship to surpass us.

As long as we finish sixth or better, and UNC does not win the championship, IU will win the cup.

Could possibly be true

I took the word of someone from our board who said that they had looked up the rule and took their word for it. I guess it would make sense you'd combine the 1st and 2nd place points and divide them. I have not been able to find the breakdown of the rules of what happens in the case of a tie.

It would seem the winner of our CWS game would have the edge...We need to finish 6th or 7th in the final poll to overtake Duke for the lead. It would seem like you'd need to finish in the top 4 to surpass Duke and us as well.

If we make the finals, we have it locked up unless we are playing Indiana in the finals. Side note, it is BS that we didn't get any points for football and Florida still got 3 points. Oh yeah and we finished in the Elite 8 in soccer and only got a 9th place rank and 6 pts.

We can't play Indiana in the finals ... we're in the same bracket. Only one of us could get to the championship.

Good point Pervis. Well to win the cup we need to either:

A) Win it all
B)Make the Finals
C)Make the Finals of our pairing (with Indiana not in the finals of our pairing and North Carolina not winning it all)

Anything less and we can't catch the current leaders. Go Cards. Let's pull it off.

Side note, as a program we don't compete in 9 out of the 20 sports in the Cup.

IT looks like they will both get 60 points, based on how they have handled ties in the lower positions in other sports.
