I was wondering if I was the only one having problems. So it's not just the jackson fox?

Called DirecTV. Area wide problem with local channels. Appears to be resolved now. 40 is back on.

Speaking of direcTV, is anyone else having trouble with the clarity of cbs? Last wk the nfl game had the black bars on the side and was broadcast in sd. This wk there are no black bars but the clarity is definitely not hd even though it is says hd.

Also, I have had directv for just over a yr and the pic on nbc is always zoomed in and less clear. Directv says it is a problem with nbc but I'm not sure I trust the lady I spoke with in customer support. Anyone have this problem? (I live on the coast)

I have had Directv for over 17 years. The only time I have had a problem with picture quality on HD is when there was some type of technical difficulty such as the receiver or dish alignment. The CBS game was in HD on my tv and the picture quality was fine. It sounds like you were on the SD station, instead of the HD, but maybe you weren't? As for
as NBC, the picture quality on my tv looks better on football games than ESPN, although ESPN looks fine. Not sure what you mean by zoomed in and what the CS rep meant with a problem with NBC?

Speaking of Directv, I'm ready to get SECN+, Watch ESPN, etc. implemented. Directv had said it would be early in 2015. So maybe pretty soon, hopefully.

Longhorn Network (Ch 677) and Fusion TV (Ch 342) will be available starting Wednesday morning. ESPN Buzzer Beater (Ch 615) has been on for about 2 weeks. They are slowing adding the new ESPN/Disney stuff. They better have WatchESPN before baseball starts.

Thanks, WrapItDog. I didn't now about the Ch 615 or the Wednesday morning availability on the other two channels. I guess it just takes time to work out the technical set-up of the streaming stuff (WatchESPN and SECN+), but I also had heard that Disney-ESPN was the holdup,so I really don't know anything lol. I agree with you about before baseball starts.

Cbs was fine up until last weekend and I am definitely looking at the hd channel as I hide the sd duplicates. The nbc image has always cut off the edges of the screen such as a portion of the nbc logo and any graphics shown. The graphic with the score is enlarged and the picture looks grainy throughout. I have double checked the settings on my tv and in the directv menu but to no avail. It is like this on all 4 tv's in my house. Fox and ESPN have superb picture quality though. The CS rep was insinuating it is a problem with the local affiliate for nbc and cbs. Not sure how to fix this issue other than calling directv again and speaking with someone else.

Thanks for the reply as this has been bugging the hell out of me.

Maybe you're having trouble with your DirecTV receiver. My CBS has been just fine (I have Dish, however), or it could be a problem on the local station broadcasting end.

That could be because NBC broadcasts in 1080i and ESPN and ABC use 740p. Interlaced, or i, has a sharper picture but doesn't handle motion as well as progressive scan (p). ESPN and ABC use progressive, I think, because they have a lot of fast moving sports that 720p handles better. I really can't tell too much difference in the two on my set though.

Try going into the Directv receiver settings>video>display and set native to off and screen format to original.

EC, do you live on the coast? I ask because I've had the exact same problems as you. CBS was always in HD until now. Not sure why the HD is gone now??

Also, NBC has NEVER been in HD down here and it pisses me off. Directv said it is because of the local companies down here, but my buddy emailed said local company. I'll quote the email later that he sent them if I can find it. Basically, the local company said that Directtv was full of **** and didn't want to purchase certain equipment in order for Directtv users to receive HD.

Yes, I do live on the ms coast (ocean springs) and I am tired of getting the run around bs from direct. Other than this issue I have been mostly satisfied with direct. I just don't know how to solve this problem as others (not on the coast) don't seem to have this problem.

One alternative to is add a AM-21 over the air tuner to your DTV DVR. I have one and get the local channels OTA from my antenna. The channels show up in the DTV guide and can be recorded just like the Sat. version of the same channel. I got the AM-21 before my local channels were available in HD from the DTV sat. I still leave it hooked up for when the weathers bad or I want to watch sub channels. It was nice before the SEC Network when WCBI would show basketball on MY Mississippi channel.

I will look into that. Thanks

If you don't mind I would like to see that letter. I would also like to know the name of the company so I can contact them myself.

All it takes is for them to create accounts for you, they don't stream anything. They may have agreed not to start paying for it until some date, but technically it's pretty simple to set up. A couple days of work, at most.

Take about an hour and build a homemade coat hanger and 1x4 antenna using one of the YouTube videos for instructions. Hook it up to your TV, change the input from cable to antenna and run a channel scan to store the over the air channels you receive. Depending on where you live you can usually get all the major networks ( I get 22 channels in Rankin County including ABC,NBC,CBS,FOX,CW,MPB,and all of their sub channels). The HD quality is much better than cable HD, there's never an outage, and its FREE!
