Are you trying to get an incredibly cheap introduction rate for a month for 12 months?

Pricing sometimes doesn't make sense to the general public. Subject I have extensive experience in but not for gym memberships but theories are similar. If the gym has too many extended memberships, they won't offer it to new customers. It restricts them from getting a higher monthly membership and keep their pricing flexible as time goes on. Very basic supply/demand concept.

With gyms, most of their costs are fixed and they have been capitalized. They have minimal variable costs such as labor, utilities, insurance, rent and such. So the strategy is to get a certain membership base to cover their monthly fixed costs that is amortized or depreciated over time. Then they will market the majority of their membership at a cost that is in a range of pricing to get a certain margin. Then they will market a price which is very high margin. I'm guessing the location you are interested is in the latter stage of their business.

The one in pburg said they never let people pay for the year upfront & thats what i dont get ...charge me the same just let me pay it all at once whats the difference? Whatever the monthly payment is multiply by 12 & then charge me that price .... i hate automatic withdrawals on my account.

They want everyone on auto withdrawel. If you pay 12 month up front and quit they dont get month 13. If they set you up monthly on a 12 month minimum they can hope you dont give them proper notice so they can get extra months.

More inportantly, wtf are you working out at a Planet Fitness?
I normally dont go to a gym , dont work out , unless ya count my 50 push ups a day working out , but im working midnight's at 40 hrs a week 7pm to 3 am & its a very slow moving job so i need a place to go at 3 to kill a couple hrs & figured running & swimming would be good for me

Pwrsonally, I would say the reason Planet Fitness won't let you pay a year up front is that they are a bunch of facists. I have a personal grudge against the chain, but that's because they bought out the local World Gyms here, and they took really good lifting gyms and stripped out everything good in the name of making it a no judgement zone. In that no judgement zone, they get upset if you wear something like a sleeveless shirt or lift more weight than they think is appropriate. Not that I'm bitter.

Honestly, if you are looking to run and swim, that's a good, cheap option.

The local PF near my house doesn't say anything to anyone wearing sleeveless shirts and tanks and they have plenty of free weights in one particular area. I've never seen anyone say anything to people lifting a lot of weight or even grunting. The only thing I've ever seen is the "lunk alarm" go off due to people dropping a lot of weight on the floor from a higher distance than they should and I'm guessing that was some sort of automated sensor they have in the floor in that area.
