i can't see any reason whatsoever to bring him back this year. We might beat Lowell and FDU without him and may not win a B1G game even with him.

We lose no one of significance next year and have no recruits. It makes sense to keep him out and have him for two more years if that's possible.

Freeman has played 7 games. I believe 20% of the games played is usually the cut off for redshirts. We play 31 games plus at least one in the BIG 10 tournament bringing us to 32. 7 would be slightly over the 20% figure but I believe the NCAA has often given a redshirt year if a player is close. If Freeman is going to miss quite a few more games I think we should consider a redshirt too.

I think Wenzel indicated that EJ said they don't expect him back any time soon. So much for game to game.

How soon can you go after it and how fast do you know (of course this is Rutgers so we'll get strung out extra long anyway). But if you could get an answer now or at least some official guidance you could make a better decision.

According to the wiki page it's less than 30% of the games and can't include any games past the mid point of the season, so assuming he remains hurt, 7 games would be well less than 30% of our 31 games (30% is 9.3, so presumably 9 or less would be ok and I don't think tourney games count towards the season total). Now, if he recovers, he'll play. Not sure how that works near the end of the season, though, i.e., if he were healthy enough to play the last few games, are we allowed to sit him, so he doesn't lose the redshirt?

Another question that I almost hate to ask. If Freeman IS redshirted, is he free to transfer and play at the new school next year - or does he have to sit another year?
