If he's out for the season, he should be able to apply for a 6th year - which means he should still have two years remaining. But my guess is, Cam doesn't want to be a 24-year old playing college ball when he has the potential to play in the NBA.

Mormon missions are 2 years, aren't they? Throw in a medical redshirt and there you are. Still... has to be very rare.

The clock stops for LDS Missionaries; they're not enrolled as students for two years. Generally speaking, you have a 5-year clock to get in 4 years of eligibility.
Cam had a medical redshirt his first year; played two years at Pitt and then graduated. When you graduate, you are immediately eligible to play anywhere as long as you haven't exhausted your four years of play. He played two years at Pitt and he still has two years remaining. Jordan Chatman graduated from BYU in 2016, after his redshirt freshmen season. He was immediately eligible, and he'll play 3 years for Boston College... Brandon Alston graduated from Lehigh after his redshirt sophomore season; so we'll see him at Georgia Tech the next two seasons. Here's a google doc of some 6th year players:

That’s the only silver lining with this injury. Jalek is pretty damn good and we need to see more of him on the court not less.
I sincerely wish the kid well. Let’s remember the ABSURD amount of injury drama that Duke endured last year. Once Jefferson got hurt in January after all the other kids came back I was starting to think I was just stuck in some horrible time warp where bad things just kept repeating themselves.
Sorry but I just can't do the phony ***, "Hate to see any kid get hurt, even if they play for UNC", thing. Those A holes didn't care about Giles or anyone else, so neither do I give a **** about theirs. Injuries happen, screw them.
They’re not supposed to care, they’re just not supposed to cheer. I can settle for indifferent within the prism of a rivalry.
But that's one thing that makes us different from unCHEAT fans Kellen. We don't want to see kids get hurt even if it is the tar heel players. Many of their fans admit they want Duke players to get hurt. They are so bitter and angry to the point they delight in seeing bad things happen. Remember how they react to Coach K and his health problems in the past. I know this is extreme but it's going to be interesting to see what their thoughts are if Coach k should pass. We are better than that. There are a few heel fans that aren't like that cb34 is one of them. OFC

Sky pretty much summed it up for me. I don't wish anything good for heels basketball, but I'm certainly not going to take joy in an 18 year old kid getting hurt.
I just never have understood anyone wishing harm on a college athlete, rival or not. I wish him a speedy recovery. My son had to deal with 5 surgeries from 6-12 grade.
I hate it for Johnson (hope for a speedy recovery), but I feel no pity whatsoever for UNC, and it's fans.

He'll be back in 4-6 weeks barring any set backs. They just cleaned things up from what I've read.
Feel sorry for the kid, but this is karma coming up and biting Roy and UNC in the *** for all the shady **** that theyve pulled recently.
And by clean things up, I meant the surgeons, not UNC athletics/academics. We all known they're too dirty to even be cleaned up.
Yeah itd take a surgeon like Dr. kavorkian (sp?) to "clean up" that program.

I feel sorry for Cam as well. I wish him nothing but the best! However, I hope Roy and UNC has a terrible season and karma hits the cheats like a freight train!
