Him and Derek Jones were the 1-2 punch when I began my fanhood of the Huskers. I used to draw pictures of them both all day long in grade school.

How I became a Husker fan was simple: I moved to the northern IN area from Buffalo, NY area (southern tier, Chautauqua lake). Moving here everyone was an ND fan. I didn't even know what CFB was when I was 7 but ND was everywhere. Me being the contrarian by nature, I couldn't like the same team everyone else did!! First game I ever watched was Mickey Joseph led Huskers get pummeled by Oklahoma. I had my own TV in my very own bedroom. This was a big deal in the early 90s. I followed Nebraska intently ever since that game. My fanhood gave me an identity against the ND crusade. It paid off once Tommie Frazier took over and we stopped losing badly to the FL teams.

Sad to hear he passed so young. I'm glad it brought up such positive memories of my childhood. May God rest his soul

Was he ill? or was this a sudden unexpected event?

Had several classes with Calvan back in the day. Played some pick up basketball against him, DB and LP. Pretty damn athletic dudes.

Sat on the hill and watched his 6 TD game against KU and like 294 yards. Big back with deceptive speed that often caused pursuers to take the wrong angle and really good vision to boot. Would have been something special if he hadn’t got injured. Still had a good career. RIP

Go watch his game against Kansas as I Freshman I think . Dude had a monster game. Loved Calvin and still remember him dropping the ball before crossing the end zone in that 92 CU game. I still say if that happened now it would be ruled a touchback for CU.

Big run against the Puffs.

At the 24 sec mark in this video. Calvin Jones looks as if he drops the ball before the end zone. I think in todays high definition and replay, that would be a touchback.

RIP CJ.

Way way too young. I wonder what happened?

Not sure if that was answered here yet. Sounds like carbon monoxide. He had heater issues and was using a generator? That was just in the news.

Very sad news.

Calvin ran so hard and angry…loved his running style.

I loved watching him in person vs Colorado on Halloween in 92 and the close to 300 rushing game in Lawrence against KU.

If I remember correctly, there wasn't a lot of wiggle to his game. Just a good, tough and very fast north-south runner.

Uhhhh… that’s so awful. What a unnecessary way to go so young
