Currently, seven of the top 11 teams in points reside in C2 Region 1 for subs.

Yutan
Freeman
Bergan
Tri County
Johnson-Brock
EMF
North Bend

Tons of great basketball played in this area of the state in C2. The new format is great, it’ll just be pretty wild to see nearly half of the Sweet 16 (district finals) come from one region.

Also, could be two long road trips to Kimball and Valentine for two teams for district finals. Kimball will most certainly host no matter what happens the rest of their season and Valentine if they win their sub would host too.

Not a stretch to say 6 of those 7 will be state tournament teams and in the old system it’s quite likely only 2 make district finals. Yutan, Bergan, and Norh Bend in one sub, Freeman, TC, JB, and EMF in another sub. We’ve come a long ways.

I really hope so. There are some awful subs in D1 this year on the boys side.
There are always terrible subs in D1...last year, Hastings STC won a single game and they hosted their sub. What's the hold up on adopting the same format as C1 and C2 for the D classes?

One could make an argument it's the eastern teams that never want to go for longer than 2 hours on a bus.

C1 and C2 will get tired of the western teams getting their own sub eventually and will take their chance at doing state wide seeding for subs I bet.
If it were up to the eastern side, there would be straight seeding. I personally think this as well. This regional format was a compromise because the western schools felt they were already traveling all year.

Football eventually made the change to all classes, hopefully basketball does it as well, but the regional idea is much better than the old system.

It better reflects the characteristics of a real state tournament.
