Our defense is not as good as advertised because once the opposing team gets 10 point lead, their offense can coast.

Our D is highly rated because of a combination of pretty decent talent and some truly bad offenses. Very few of the teams we have played have had a lead large enough to coast earlier than the fourth quarter. Have you not kept tally of the moral victories against Auburn, LSU, UT, UK, and Bama?

Is an idiot.

I watched the MSU/BAMA game with 3 Bama fans, and everyone of them said that Douglass looked like the best LB on the field.

MSU has a seasoned veteran defense that is very good. They didn't throw in the towel knowing their offense couldn't score, they kept fighting.

I do think next year's defense will have some challenges, with the number of losses they will have. Croom really screwed himself this season, because this is an 8 win team with just an average offense. Back to back 8 win seasons and everyone would have given him a pass next year after his senior laden defense was graduating.

I think we are an average D this year. We can hang with teams that have ****** or bad offenses but any of the top teams could name their score.

We have played a bad D1-AA team, Tenn, Kentucky, Vandy, Auburn- all are 100 or worse....any team with a decent offense has rolled up some offense on us- Bama, GaTech, LSU, Middle Tennessee, LaTech

La Tech scored twice because we muffed two punts inside the red zone. We shut them down otherwise other than one drive. Bama scored 16 points on ST's alone. I think GT was a combination of poor coaching and bad team morale, but I'll still give you that one.

At any rate, we have a good defense, not a great defense. (Great being defined as 99 defense and very good being defined as 07 defense.)

against teams that have offenses better than 100....

We gave up 350 yards against Bammer to go with the punt returns, LSU- 427 yards, Middle Tenn- 348 yards, Ga Tech- 500 yards

We are a good defense when we play offenses as bad as ours...look for UPig and Mississippi to get 350 yards+ on us as well

...we have an elite defense. They said that with even an average offense, our defense would be much better statistically. They seemed to think our offense stunk up the joint, and they were exactly right!

The ESPN crew also said the MSU fanbase needs to be patient with Crooms because of the mess he inherited, that Mississippi beat Alabama 6-3 in 1980, and that Sly Croom was the starting center on that 80 Bama team. Forgive me for not jumping on board with everything the WWL says. Free your mind a little bit Backer. Think for yourself. Don't just presume it is true because ESPN says it is so.

Of all the things to complain about and nitpick about concerning our football program, the very last thing we need to discuss is whether the defense is good or great. I don't care who we've played this year, our defense has played well enough for us to have at least 6 wins right now, if not 7. Coaching, offense, special teams - we suck at these things. Defense is the lone bright spot and the only portion of our team I have any confidence in.

...and you know it.

Our defense is on the field longer than they need to be because of an inept offense. They give up points because of "gifts" from both the offense and special teams. Remember, LSU scored two TD's on interception returns. Alabama scored 16 points on special teams <17>ups! Most team's higher scores have had nothing to do with a bad defense, EXCEPT Georgia Tech, and we were simply not playing against their offense properly, which due to a bad defensive game plan. Our defense deserves our support. Cheese has done a good job this year, except for Ga Tech.

disagree....while cheese has done ok this year as a whole....his defense has yet to score any points and that is just not acceptable....you know as well as many others.....the key for Mstate to be successfull is to have a defense that scores

...not recruiting players with their "hands out." They were referring to not cheating. Anyone who thinks Nick Saban got the #1 recruiting class in the country last year because he plays the recruiting game totally honest is naive. There was a reason Croom wouldn't talk to Alonzo Lawrence's mom. There was a reason he wouldn't talk to Cordera Eason. I'm not saying none of our alumni aren't trying to extend a helping hand to recruits' and their families but it without Croom's knowledge.

...he has done well with what we have. No, our offense has not scored, but that was for a reason, we simply don't have the pass rush we had with Titus Brown. Our scores on defense last year came primarily from his pressure on the opponents QB's. Excellent recruiting will solve that.

I'll state those facts aGAIN-

Middle Tennesse- 348 yards- we had 350
LSU- 427 yards- we had 285
GaTech- 500 yards- we had 407
Bammer- 350 yards- we were our usual pitiful selves...

every offense we play thats even decent goes for 350 or more on us...just hide and watch our next 2 opponents do the same...you cant argue facts you sheep

Just like with Dixon- I told you he is an average back and guess what? He is....And dont give me "his OL sux" because his ypc is higher than its ever been...

quit being such a homer and be realistic

last year our offense stunk up the joint and all you sheep said "defensive TD's count too"....So all these punt returns and such count as well...you can try and spin it all you want, but we are a horrible offense with a decent defense. No more. And thats why we will finish 3-9.

his half-brother, Co-Eric Riley. Also, don't you think Alonzo is thanking his lucky stars he didn't sign with State - look at how little his brother plays.

Also, Saban doesn't have to cheat. He's a phenomenal coach at a tradition rich program.

I'm not saying none of our alumni aren't trying to extend a helping hand to recruits' and their families but it without Croom's knowledge.

Now just wait a minute, Skipper. Saban may very well be orchestrating a mass give-away Oprah style, but he recruits top talent and gets his pick of the litter. He does have a little recruiting tool that Croom will never have, a national championship. Not to mention a tradition rich program. Croom may be staying away from top recruits "with their hands out", and if true there lies problem number one. How the hell does he know if he won't talk to their "mothers". For him to be this great recruiter he must start with actually recruiting top talent. And yes I am well aware of his nationally ranked class this year, its about time and I will believe it when I see it.

For you to make these excuses for Crooms lacking in the recruiting area is simply naive in my book. As far as I know Saban has never had his style of personally giving the give-aways become a problem for him. If as you say some of our alumni "extend a helping hand to recruits' and their families" and it is ok with you, then it stands to reason if Crooms simply recruits some "with their hands out" he may land some of these "without Crooms knowledge".
