I don't see him as a NT in the B1G. He is 6'2" 295 (too much baby fat) and runs a 5.1 40 TD dash. Only a handful of P5 offers. Also not sure how interested he was in Nebraska.

Maybe if we still ran a 4-3 and had more ships to offer. But switching to a 3-4 right now how deep are we at NT? Mick has 2 years left, both twins can play Nose and only sophomores. Damion Daniels, Watts and Thomas coming. Am I forgetting anyone?

well, not sure Watts will be here. Either way, I understand not offering and I hope it doesn't come back to haunt us.

Think Thomas will be a DE...behind Carlos Davis (and Newell)

If we'd given him an offer and he turned us down, I'd feel some resentment towards him for turning us down. But he doesn't have an offer, and is somebody who has only lived here for a few years and to whom we are "just another school". All that makes me care very little about this.
True. Someone else made a good point. If this was just another 3 star from Illinois (home state) nobody would give 2 *****. FYI kid... NU isn't "just another school".

He doesn't fit Diaco's preferred frame for the DL, simple as that. Not with Mapieu on the hook and others in line.

If he ever starts he will play against with us with a vendetta. Limited schoolies plus a tweener in our system, just unfortunate because he's in Lincoln (not from) and going to another B1G program.

I guess we will see. To me it seems if you have an inside track on a solid defensive lineman in your backyard, you make an offer. For Nebraska, those dime a dozen type of player have been a big factor on the defensive line the last couple of year.
I personally see this one as a big miss. The #3 player in the state, the best player in Lincoln and the top rated player in the top class in the state. I could give a frog fat *** about a defensive linemen's 40 time. I saw the kid play a couple of times and he was quick to the point of attack and like they said in the article he was doubled most of the time.

There are too many other variables that factor into making an offer than he is from Nebraska. Scholarship allocation, scholarship distribution, higher rated players that play the same position to name a few.

So I'll ask the question. Is your opinion based on the fact we didn't offer a low 3 star player or that you are worried that he could come back to bite us?

Also, who do you not take in this class if you offer and accept a commitment from Williams?

Sorry but him dominating class A talent is meh, even while being double teamed. This is Nebraska with Bo and his clowns gone; no more beating out Wyoming and Toledo for recruits. We're after players that have OSU, Clemson, Bama, UGA, Miami, etc as their offers with the N in the mix. This is big boy recruiting. Buckle up and enjoy the ride.

I don't know why you would slam him for this. He didn't get an offer from Nebraska. Do you expect him to speak glowingly about us right now?

I haven't seen him play so I don't know where he stands. (I do like the fact he won the state shot put title. You have to have quick feet to do that.) However, let us not delude ourselves into thinking that all things being equal we wouldn't be better off with a kid from Nebraska over a kid from Illinois. There was a lot of talk about players not giving their all for a coach that is foreign to them. I think our history shows the same is true about players who played high school ball in our state.

4 of 17 retired jersey's are from Nebraska. Crouch, Rimmington, Steinkuhler and Wiegert

Only 4 of the last 30 All Americans are from Nebraska. Hochstein, Wiegert,
Crouch, and Henery.

The comment about Nebraska being just another school was made a few months ago before he even knew whether he was getting an offer. That was telling about how much he cared about ever being a Husker. I get it-he's only lived here a few years and hasn't grown up admiring the program like most kids in the state have. That's why I just really don't think we should care about where he goes.

Kinda surprised to see the angst generally about "Nebraska" kids being shunned.

We turned away Avery for Mapieu to the detriment of our recruiting ranking. Jurgens has been in the fold forever. We have the 2019 kid, Nelson. I believe we also offered a Burke kid for next year on the defense.

If you can play and fit our desired specs, you're going to get an offer and every chance to succeed.

Either you trust Parella (the penultimate Husker guy) on this or not. He's doing such a good job, that he feels he can go out and get a better fit than to try and fit this tweener kid in cause he lives in Lincoln.

.

The unstated assumption here is that Nebraska will continue to have a dire need for just healthy bodies, where a dime a dozen type of player will perform well because its the last best option. Certainly we've been operating with a less than full cupboard and only now are we really seeing the beginnings of depth being built along the lines.

The way Parella has been recruiting and will likely to continue, he doesn't have to take Wiliams in the hopes that he'll be better than a hobbled walk-on and save our bacon. He's set the bar higher than that. He can be choosy and not just let the area code be the prime factor.

I think he wanted to come to NU. Only natural to feel a little jilted. Many others have felt the same way. Personally, I think it was simply a numbers game. NU has stopped recruiting high rated several DTs that previously showed interest.

You don't call Nebraska "just another school" if you want to come here. Remember, that comment was made before he even knew whether he was getting an offer.

Pretty good considering our state population.
I really havent seen any outrage over this, i think people are looking for it too hard.
We just dont have the numbers to go after everyone and i think most understand that.

unfortunately most don't understand that. There is considerable butthurt that this instate kid wasn't offered.

Then you get people who want to try and tie how hard a kid will play to where they were born or played HS football.

Ill disagree with the considerable part. Sounds like fighting windmills.

so trade one non-native Nebraskan for another? How does that correct the "outrage" or fear of a Nebraska high schooler going elsewhere and succeeding?

It doesn't, for whatever that matters . Just taking the better player...and answering your question...based on pretty significant first-hand knowledge.

To me this discussion is more about the whole 500 mile radius thing. Not only was the kid in that area, he was in about a 5 mile radius.
I guess if I would trade out a recruit it would be the kicker. Seems like we have had pretty good luck finding walk on kickers in the past.

So basically Frank Solich recruiting? Just offer everyone who is closest and roll with it?

I get taking a local kid if he's the best option or the only option at a late date, but not if he's one of the lesser options among many in July, but simply because you can chalk up a win for the off-season OWH 500 mile radius feel good story.

Better player based on your first hand opinion?

In my opinion based on watching as many game videos as I can find, Mapieu has a higher ceiling. He is more athletic now and will eventually be bigger and still be faster.

Just my opinion.
