Whenever Bruce Pearl comes up I always remember the Illinois recruit payment scandal. Pearl was asked by the NCAA about a recruit that Iowa & Illinois (among others) was recruiting heavily. IIRC, he had recordings of the recruit admitting to getting cash, cars, whatever from Illinois. It got Illinois in trouble and increased their hatred of Iowa even more. I worked in Chicago with a lot of Illinois grads and they weren't mad at the program for blatant cheating, they were mad that they got caught because (in their mind) everybody cheated.

It's annoying he can't turn off the bias.
