I don’t see how this isn’t tampering by Texas. They aren’t allowed to contact him after he signs with USC, right? So then how does he make the decision to enter the portal and immediately sign with Texas? Seems very fishy.

I’m not well versed on the new rules so pardon my ignorance here. Is this not somehow a breach of contract by the kid? People say a kid should be able to leave if a coach leaves. But what about all of the time and money the coach puts into recruiting this kid? They lose him and have nothing to show for it.

They recruit hundreds of kids with nothing to show for it. The focus should be on these coaches lying to these kids and leaving whenever they want while locking kids in for 4 years. Kingsbury signed as the OC..this kid signs and enrolls, then kingsbury leaves for the nfl. The kid should not have to sit out.

It was between USC and Texas as his final choice. He signed and went to classes at USC. Kingsbury left USC as OC. McCoy enters portal. Texas enters picture again. McCoy signs financial aid papers at Texas. I'm guessing he's going to have to sit out a year, as I don't think he'll be granted special waiver to play immediately.

As long as a coach can be fired, hired by another school, then leave to go to the NFL in a matter of days then the kids should be able to do the same. He should be able to play day 1. at whatever school he likes. Kids go to schools for the coaches, if coaches have no accountability for their actions, and they don't, then kids shouldn't.

I don't think it's a good idea to allow transfer kids immediate eligibility if an assistant coach transfers. The kid is from California if I'm not mistaken. Surely, Kingsbury isn't the only reason he signed with USC. It's just weird that a kid would transfer after a couple weeks. I cannot remember anything like that happening before. He isn't special. He should sit out like everyone else.

In all honesty the way I see it is forcing the kid to sit out a year only Benifits Texas, the kid still has 5 to play 4 so he sits burns his redshirt but doesn’t get to risk injury or mileage on his legs by playing in 4 games, all the while he is only getting himself better by having a year in the weight room and to learn the play book... if you want to make it a punishment to leave before even practicing then take a year of eligibility from him, 4 to play 4 then Texas has to weigh the risk vs reward of redshirting him and only having him for 2-3 years vs the 3-4 years they’d get if he didn’t lose a year... that’s just my thoughts on it

So I want to start by saying I agree, but to an extent with the NCAA having to review these transfer rules... the issue I see here is yes he did commit to USC and then decide to transfer before he even hit the field... where do these kids learn to deal with adversity, now on the other hand where to these universities learn to have accountability weather it be with tampering and holding onto a coach until after signing day just to keep a recruit. It’s a shady business all around and at the end of the day this younger generation needs to learn to deal with situations instead of running from it... what happens next year if his position coach at Texas gets hired away? Does he run off? The university and the coaches have the responsibility to give full disclosure that staffing changes happen frequently and while you may like the coach that recruited you, at the end of the day you are committing to play for and represent that university, not that coach who may be fired, lured away or medically retire for the second time in his career. As far as the player they need to understand things won’t always fall the way they want them, and that they are committing to the school not the coach, it is the school paying their tuition not the coach and once signed then they do to an extent owe that to the school... now as I said before I do think there needs to be some review done of this whole thing and honestly at this point I don’t have any ideas for a way forward, but all around I just think it looks worse for the kid then anyone else. I look at it as if your skill are good enough to get you to the NFL, you have no choice on the team that drafts you, you may not have the coach you wanted or the weather you wanted... most likely you’ll be drafted based on your fit in that teams system... you’ll have to deal with it for the first 4 years of your career at a minimum so why not start learning to just play the game regardless if your coach stayes or goes.. just my two cents.. again... sorry for the long rant
