It amazes me how she’s now reaching out to everyone possible to get her out of trouble, when she broke the law in Russia. Just a short time ago she wanted to protest the freedoms we have in the US, however she’s trying to use our countrymen to help her get freedom. I’m all for using your platform for your own agenda, however don’t come back and ask for that same county, which you boycotted, to now help you.

I hope she learns a valuable lesson that the US is the best country in the world. May think twice against protesting what freedoms you do have.

Dude, it’s less than a gram of liquid THC oil. And they’ve kept her this long over that but you’re taking Russias side ? I may not love her as a person but that’s a little aggressive considering where she is and why she’s being held.

I get it, careful what you ask for or whatever saying you want to insert here. But it’s a tiny bit of THC oil and they’re making an example in addition to her being a pawn in this turmoil. She may be prescribed that oil in what state she lives in but the smart play would’ve been to throw it out and get home. I assume she forgot it was in her luggage more than likely but who knows.

I thought we protected our own. It's weak when you dont.
Dude, it’s Russia! No matter how insignificant you or I think the crime may be, you don’t test the waters over there. You walk the straight & narrow bc they are just looking for a reason to throw you in jail….
But yet she wants to protest our penal system for being too harsh…ironic isn’t it?!

Mercy and Grace are God’s to give, but she choose to break the laws of a Godless country. I doubt she’ll find either there.

Agree 100%. So my point is shouldn’t we show her mercy even if we don’t agree with her past views etc ? She’s definitely not going to find it there as you said so she needs someone to do it. She made a bad mistake at the worst time possible. She made her bed and I get that but it doesn’t mean we can’t be merciful.

Have you ever been to Russia? If you’ve ever been there, you would know that breaking any laws in that country is insane. She had been there playing basketball for years in the offseason. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

The fact our penal system isn’t as draconian as Russia’s doesn’t mean it’s not too harsh.

No one is taking Russia’s side. He’s just stating that someone who thinks America is so bad, is being held for some ******** in another country.

100% we should show her grace and treat her in a way that she may not have treated us. Then she may she the error in her ways and realize how alike we are before she see the differences between us. Only love and unity can change the direction of our country.

America is in desperate need of a leader who can bring us together. Guns aren’t all the sudden the reason people are committing such heinous acts. It’s division, lack of direction/parenting and greed/power. Cable news is so divisive on both sides. We have an extreme lack of parenting. In many cases social media is raising or children. We’re losing the educational race. We’re losing export markets. We’ve become dependent on other major superpowers for goods and services. We’re worried about all the wrong things at the moment.

it’s kind of funny when Americans have no clue how the world works. As bad as America is it’s hardly as bad as most the world.

americas left are fascist. Everything they want can’t be achieved without a robust police state. This girl disrespected the community of Russia and is being dealt with. Any communist should agree. Even Angela Davis agreed with this, and she’s looked at as a prison activist in America.

1% acquittal rate …. Good luck 👍
Maybe she can kneel and protect their government and see how that works out for her. She knowingly broke the law in a country very well know for not messing around with them …. This ain’t the USA (the country you claimed is oppressive and need to denounce) with their soft judicial system. Tough luck buttercup.

can’t say I am too broken up watching her woke teammates here meltdown and beg their president to help while he wanders aimlessly around the White House looking wondering where he is

Hates America. Makes it public. Arrested in a country that is NOT America. Begs the country she hates, America, to help her.

Have fun in the gulag!

But in all seriousness, regardless of her political leanings the situation that she’s in sucks. If she was (insert mid tier WNBA “player” here) she likely is already back at home but you can’t mess around with a country that the US is openly rallying against and expect there to be zero repercussions.

So now, Russia is asking for Arms dealer, Victor Bout, "Merchant of Death". You think this is a fair trade? You know Russia is going to milk this for ALL they can.

Griner's minor crimes (alleged or real) in a hostile communist country will likely result in the Biden Administration exchanging a real criminal. As a USA citizen, I would never put my country in that position, but then unlike Griner, I am very proud of the United States of America. Very proud.

Griner's letter to Biden stated she voted for him. He needs her vote, so surely the Woke Train will get this done ASAP....be damn the price paid for her arrogant stupidity. No one is above the law, particularly Americans in communist countries. (Remember the college kid that took the souvenir poster in China....and whose family received a vegetative body back and ultimately had to pull the plug. If Griner didn't learn from that, not sure she has the ability to understand consequences. )

I love threads like these. Reveals how hateful people actually are. Especially those that identify as Christians when their actions, words or whatever in no way demonstrate what Christ would want us to say. But nothing new here.

To remove religion and just have a general discussion....

Protesting the country and loudly speaking on what you believe is wrong with it doesn't mean you hate it. Some of yall can't truly be this way. We have multiple amendments that say as much. People wildly and loudly protested and got women the right to vote, civil rights among other things. Another 30 or so amendments that didnt all come easy but wvery one was a request for constitution level change. Some of those protests were violent and not a pretty part of our history. Those people didn't hate America. They wanted it to be better.

You can know the country is great and want it to be better at the same time. Problem is many times the ones that are most comfortable or not impacted in the areas of concern simply don't give a damn. Your right. But it doesn't mean you love America more.

The people protesting on Jan 6 didn't do it because they hate America. Even if I disagree with their protest I don't think they were there because they hate America. Should we suggest they all go live abroad and see how good they have it? That's just stupid. No one suggests that the proud boys should go live abroad and experience Russia. Some of you don't realize how hateful you sound. It's sad. Not her being in trouble. I still believe she'll be fine in the long run. Being used as a pawn. Sad that people actually are so damn hateful. And I don't care one bit about Griner beyond her being a citizen.

A
I have no sympathy for the anthem protesters.
According to a CBS study released this morning, Patriotism in America is at an all time low. Let's swap out immigrants at our Southern borders that want to be in America for those that claim they want to leave.

She won't change at all, if the USA gets her back the next thing we'll see is her leading another protest of some kind.
She is a typical liberal who wants all our laws changed so they can run wild, steal, rob, do drugs and no harm can come to them.
Leave her *** there and let other know we won't make deals for those who protest our laws. The USA should do to those who protest here and burns things down, destroy police cars, kill others and put their lazy sorry *** in jail and make them do hard labor of some kind.

She will eventually make it back to the USA. It will be telling to see if she still hates this country and supports Socialism/Marxism after she has seen first hand about truly losing your voice and your rights. She would find the treatment in China not much better. Maybe she'll ask Putin for a signed (autographed) Russian flag so that she can take back home? Better yet, maybe she will realize that, although not perfect, the USA is still the best place to live?

This situation has absolutely 0 to do with the law she broke and everything to do with generating some leverage inside a geopolitical conflict.

While I sympathize with her situation, I wish those inside the US would stop assuming they know the contours of a really difficult dynamic. The cost/benefit here is extremely complex. For instance, if you prisoner swap her for an arms dealer during an active conflict, you are almost assuredly causing a lot more death/destruction than her one life.

This is one instance where you just need to let the career professionals that work in intelligence and the state department work out a solution.

He/She (I so hope I got the right pronoun...lol) probably has no conception of that particular situation. She appears to be someone that doesn't even know what she's protesting about...just the "woke" thing to do. These people are simply dimwits.
