Pretty surprised he got a job so fast. There were some pretty damaging stories about him at his last job.

Not sure that is the guy you want as the face of your football program.

So fast? He got canned three years ago.

Can't stand the guy, but I'm surprised it took this long for someone to hire him.

Fatty and skinny went to bed
Brett woke up his wife was dead. He is still an undisciplined slob. I know that’s cold.

His wife fits that description. As far as I know, she's still breathing.

Who were the ones that thought Nebraska should have hired Bielema instead of SF on this forum...

I'm really surpised another power 5 team would hire him at all. I thought his career was done. It's amazing what a little time with the Patriots can do to rehab a coaching career.

Getting your butt handed to you in the SEC doesn't end coaching careers. Bielema's a d---head of the highest order, but he had a lot of success at Wisconsin.

Are you picking a coach who has won in the Big Ten and been to multiple “BCS” bowls or a coach that has 4 losing seasons out of 5 as a head coach with no end in sight?
I wish I had a crystal ball. When we got Frost, his track record was excellent. Bielema is a dumpster fire and his future at a school that doesn't care about football is predictable. Bielema: "You guys seriously wanna give me 25 million? (fights back grin, surveys the room to see if he's being trolled) Great, I won't let you down." PFFFFFFTTTTT

I wanted Frost. He was the next big thing supposedly. But his track record wasn’t excellent. He’s a first time power 5 HC and at that time had one awesome season against a weak schedule and one losing season.
Bielema on the other hand has 3 Big Ten titles to his name and will bring a brand of football that suits the Big Ten. I have no idea if he will work at Illinois as you said it’s not really a football school. But am I taking him over Frost right now? Absolutely. Now hopefully Frost destroys him in Ireland.

Bert wants the Iowa job when Ferentz retires. He has a Hawkeye tattoo on his leg. He's hoping the Illinois job will be his audition.

This is a desperation **** hire by Illinois. They will live to regret this. They think this is a "splash" hire and a guy who knows how to recruit in the B1G footprint. But the man is a serious douche bag. I know there are not a lot of serious head coaching options out there right now and no real "up and coming coach" like the dude at Coastal Carolina would probably take the job. Their better approach would have been to survey the ranks of defensive or offensive coordinators at successful programs who are looking to make the move to head coach.

This is also why those on here who want to see Frost fired are nuts. The Nebraska job is more attractive than the Illinois job and soon our facilities will be first rate. But everyone knows that it is no longer a place you want to plant your flag if you are an up and coming coach. Too many negatives.

I dont understand the hatred for Bielima here. Hes an above average coach taking a below average job and people are upset about it? Why people even have an opinion on it is weird.

Success at wussconsin is because of Barry

Epiphany of the Day. I was going to post something to that effect myself. (in reality, we do not know for sure, but someday when the Wizard of Oz is gone from Wisconsin, we will know, and I am pretty sure you & I are right.)

We don’t know for sure, but it sure seems like it. Gary Anderson was successful at Wisconsin and terrible after. Bert was terrible after Wisconsin. And Cryst wasn’t any good before Wisconsin. Coaches are plug and play for Barry.

I'm not arguing that Bielema is a great coach - only that I'm not surprised he got another Power 5 job. Retread coaches who've never won anything get hired over and over again, let alone guys who've won conference titles.

There's a story in that thread about Houston Nutt calling a family, asking them to reschedule a funeral, so that one of his players could be at that week's game.

He's remembered for being an arrogant prick when we played his sconnie teams. Sort of a fat Bo Pelini.

Agreed, I think this is a good hire for Illinois. Bielima isn't great, but it's not like Illinois will keep a great coach around anyway. An average coach at a below average program is a good match.

Look at the **** people pretend to care about.

He drinks?
He likes to have fun?
He goes to a casino?

What has happened to people? College coaches used to live at the bars, now they can't do a freaking thing without it being known that they "have a problem"

Ron Turner is the best coach they've had in my lifetime. Ron, frigging, Turner. Bielima is probably a step up from that.

He's a slob. Think Fred Flintstone of college football.
