Median pay for practicing physician is 270,000. Far from rich. Obviously there are some that make way more and some that make less.

This isn't a discussion about doctors though. There is no comparison to be made. The attempt to compare the 2 itself was a ridiculous stretch. Like comparing an apple to a toothbrush, a space shuttle and a fishing boat, or like, you know, for example, comparing a doctor to a policeman.

I would say that both are there to help people, but SCOTUS ruled that law enforcement does not owe a duty to the public to protect them from harm in '81 (Warren v DC).

$270k is indeed rich if you are looking at income. That's top 5% of household income in the richest country in the world. And most of those individuals earning in the high $200's don't start there when they are 32. They work their way up and make that much money for the last 5 or ten years of their career. SO while $270k is not private jet rich or retire after ten years of working rich, if you make $270k a year for 25 years and you don't retire wealthy, then you have made some really bad decisions or had some incredibly bad luck.

I mean murder only hurts the “consumer” of being murdered.

Now obviously consumers of drugs make that choice and I don’t discount that they are a victim to their own choice.

But many drug dealers do way more than just sell drugs to a consumer.

End Qualified Immunity. End Civil Asset Forfeiture. End the War on Drugs.

Too many lives have been ruined and unnecessary blood shed (not even going to mention South of the border).

If prohibition worked, alcohol would still be illegal
. It creates a black market, ripe for illegal enterprise which leads the escalating violence to control the market share.

Like The Onion t-shirt says, "Drugs win War on Drugs".

Are police unions the only unions that Democrats hate and republicans love?

I'm sure someone will misinterpret what i'm about to say. So let me just state what i read in some official reports of the incident and events leading up to it. The boyfriend was trouble and had been under surveillance. He was running drug money between residences. The report leading up to the shooting, does mention Ms. Taylor as she had PREVIOUSLY (she may not have been any longer) been accepting delivery of drug money from the boyfriend. At times even, at her home. Supposedly they were "broken up" but still very close when he was arrested on other unrelated charges. He called her from the jail to get cash money to come bail him out (a pretty large sum) as she knew where it was and how to get her hands on it. They had a recording of him saying "thanks baby, i love you.....". All that to say, this probably could have been avoided had she not been hanging around with that guy. I'm not saying at all that the she deserved to be shot. Don't misunderstand me. The shooting itself was a very tragic accident. But she was running with a bad character and i don't understand how someone doesn't feel some sense of danger being associated with a guy like that. If my duaghter was running with a guy like that, whether she actually uses drugs or not, I'd have to be telling her that she's likely placing herself in danger....either with the thugs he runs with or with the police when something eventually goes down. And it finally did.

they had boat loads of good intel indicating that drugs were being moved through that apartment and several others were connected by the vehicle Taylor was driving. The entire underlying facts and circumstances were released a few weeks back. It’s one of the most thorough and in-depth facts and circumstances that I’ve ever seen in a search warrant request. Very detailed. The apartment had been under surveillance for a long time with tons of documentation, photographs, etc. It was a mountain of evidence.
Correct. You clearly read the same thing i did. While Ms. Taylor wasnt their target, she was involved with much of what they had under surveillance

So we are no longer talking about drugs, but rather the black market demand and violence that comes with trying to sustain/grow market share.

Murder should be charged as murder. Theft should be charged as theft.

Someone on their own time, spending their own money, wasting their own life, should be left alone. That is not a legal issue. That is a health issue, if the goal is government intervention.

Seems that way. I've heard right leaning folks bash even teachers unions. They don't say much when I talk about law enforcement unions

What does any of this have to do with law enforcement?

It doesn't, except that you argued that being subject to criminal liability and/or civil liability doesn't stop people from wanting to be doctors. And I was just pointing out that it doesn't stop them b/c they aren't really at risk of criminal liability outside of prescribing pain killers (which does in fact greatly reduce their willingness to prescribe painkillers) and even with potentially high medmal insurance costs, they still get to be rich barring stupid decisions and/or incredibly bad luck.

I mean what abt the liability issues with legalizing crack, meth, etc.

You can smoke pot with no long term effect.

You can be a functioning alcoholic. I know some.

The liability with selling meth or crack? Meh I’m not gonna wanna get into that business.

Then don't. Don't smoke either or invest in companies that will produce. Simple.

It doesn't change your life. Just like cannabis, now that it's becoming legal everywhere. Or like alcohol in the 30s.

People have the right to pursue their own happiness at the end of a crackpipe, should they choose.

They don't have a right to murder or steal or destroy another's property. See the difference?

But if we're gonna be in the prohibition business and go down that road, let's talk about controlling the amount of sugar that is in everything we eat and leads to diabeetus and heart disease.

If you think drugs are bad, wait til you find out how many people die from heart disease every year.

So Doctors are held accountable for over-prescribing painkillers, and they stop doing it so much. Weird. If only we could use this kind of revelation with law enforcement somehow.

Doctors go into mountains of debt and years of schooling, then residency learning before they earn that kind of money. Stop comparing them to law enforcement or hold them to same standards, ya dunce.

No, the government makes prescribing painkillers and just managing pain generally a hassle, so doctors stop doing their job. And if you want police to stop doing their jobs, you can take the same approach. Had to deal with a worker last week whose doctor prescribed them four pain pills for basically having their entire mouth replaced. Which probably would have been ok had the employee not had to go back in in two days to cut and drill some more. But after that the doctor just said tough ****, he's not prescribing any more, he'd rather the employee be in a lot of pain than deal with the potential hassle of prescribing pain pills.

I'm not the one that started the doctor to police comparison jackass. I just corrected yours because you made a stupid comparison without adjusting for the very obvious and significant difference that being a doctor provides you an upper class lifestyle and being a police officer provides you a middle class lifestyle, and maybe a lower middle class lifestyle depending on where you are a cop.

I didn't either, mouth breather. I've been trying to stop that stupid *** comparison because there is no comparison. One saves people and the other generates revenue for the state. Keep trying though, you truly must be doing god's work lol. Brush your teeth, the boot polish is very pungent

ETA: I can't tell if know how to read or not, bc you keep responding and comparing police to doctors even though I've said you cannot compare the two throughout my last six responses.

I have a slight disagreement with that. The person wasting their life does have an impact on society as a whole. You stated you were in schools in the 2000s. There are many people on here that was in the 80s and the 90s. Drugs were not as in use in schools back then.

Fact is that drugs damage the undeveloped brain. That could very well be why we are seeing kids and young adults not able to deal with life in a productive way. The brain is not fully developed prior to the age of 25.

The few that did, we could see and you could tell they were mentally different at that point. They were the Jeff Spicoli's.

For the record, we never had a war on drugs. We had a facade. Had we chosen to, we could have wiped that out. In fact, we could do that now if we wanted to.

On the Police note... According to MPR, the Minneapolis city council, which unanimously supported a pledge to abolish the police, is now asking, “Where are the police?”

council member Jamal Osman said, “Residents are asking, ‘Where are the police?’” Council President Lisa Bender suggested police are intentionally not arresting people. She claimed, “it is very concerning in the current context.”

The police responded that the policemen and women are simply walking away. MPR notes that is “more than double the usual number of officers who either step down from the department or who are inactive each year.” with 3 months left this year.
