Top candidate for Duquesne head coaching job. Would be great if we could keep this staff together for a couple years. Plus if we turn our program around he will be able to get a much better job.

What does he get paid here? Would love to retain him. QU could be a career ending move for somehow who aspires to be a head coach

i hate that this move may make sense for him. Hope we can hang on to em.
If they offer him a 4-5 year contract at 400k-500k a year I think he'd have a tough time turning it down. If he leaves would should pull a seton hall and hire an aau/high school coach and basically cheat without it being technically called cheating.

well that would suck but that is a tough job...when was the last time they made the NCAA tourney...good lord the program hasnt been to the NCAA in 40 years and only 4 NITs since then and just one in the last 22 years. Seems like a graveyard. I think they had their heydey in the late 60s/early 70s but its a bad program

King Rice might be up for it too....going to be tough to get anyone...I think they should go all in on Mike Rice

Some here are old enough to remember NYC's Boys HS player Sihugo Green. Tremendous player who played at Duquesne before his NBA career. Two time All-American.

The dilemma for any assistant coach without prior head coaching experience is choosing a head coaching position where there is a realistic chance of being successful.Knight spent many years at Pitt so he knows the territory but can he recruit at a school like Duquesne that has a poor track record for decades.I agree Mike Rice might be interested and Duquesne might be willing to take a chance on him.

I would hate to lose Brandin but if we did I would think Vetrone would move up or maybe we would get Moore who was the top recruiter for Calhoun who just got let go by Quinnipac (spelling ?).

Don't forget Norm Nixon, who played at Duquesne in the mid 70's and then the Lakers.
For some reason, I remember him killing us in a game in 76-77.

He is not going to turn down an Atlantic 10 Head Coaching job. That is a pretty good first job. It is hard to win just as Rutgers is hard to win playing in the BIG. It is not easy getting a Head Coaching job.

I have never figured out why Duquesne cannot win in hoops.

Nice campus in a great city and easily accessible by car or plane to lots of good HS players .

Would be a crushing blow after just year one, has a good relationship with our current guards, and also has best connection to the top NJ talent given his younger age and ability to connect with today's kids

If the offer is right why wouldn't he take it? He's from Pitt and has good connections. If he does decent he will get a bigger job like Pittsburgh. If he bombs he's still young enough for a do over and can be a top assistant somewhere barring a scandal or something.

career risk if he doesnt succeed at a program that has little history of success

Like any other young coach looking for an HC opportunity, I am sure he has a quiet confidence that he could get the job done there. The fact that it is in the Pittsburgh area which he very familiar with makes it more of a potential good match.

When you have a talented staff you can only anticipate departures. With that said would hate to lose him as he is solid with our guards especially... and his youth helps a lot.

If Brandin thinks being the Duquesne head coach a might be his ticket to better opportunities than if he stayed at RU as an assistant, I think he'll be gone if that job is offered..
But if he feels the Pitt job might open next year, RU could be a better path than one year as the Duquesne head coach

I can't wish ill will on a guy who's been a great coach for us. I sit behind the bench, and he's very active with the players, and I think has a really positive impact.

If he's offered a head coaching job, I hope he takes it, and I hope he succeeds. It would be a big loss for us, but would never want to stand in the way of someones success.

If he goes, best of luck to him.

For the people down on Shoes, you can thank him in part for this year, because he's the guy who held our core of players together. Amazing the lack of respect that our fans have for people. It's one of the reasons we have one of worst fan bases in the power 5 conferences.

Duquense hiring Brandin Knight would be great move for them and a great move for Knight and a great move for Pitt. It's a win win win except for Rutgers.

Presuming Knight does respectable at Duquense, he is a HC in waiting for Pitt for sure.

76-77...wasn't that the year we were 31-0 or was it 75-76? We made the final 4 before losing the 76 season I thought? I doubt we'd lost to a Duquesne that magical season??

Knight is from NJ playing for Seton Hall Prep.He was a star player for Pitt and later became a Assistant Coach at that school.

You aren't going to get your first HC gig in the ACC.

I think Pitt would hire him down the line, but I would tend to agree, that it's tough for major conference schools to hire a first time head coach. Most of these guys come from mid-majors before they make that jump. I'm sure though that there are a few guys who have been promoted as an assistant. We were dumb enough to hire Fred Hill Jr. and the Big East wast he predominant conference at the time.
