Bower to MSU as OC?

So says the lunchtime rumor going around Hattiesburg today. I don't see it happening, but who knows...

FWIW, Bower was the Off. Coordinator at Okla. State and USM before becoming Head Coach. He played QB at USM and coached Favre during his time there. So, Bower does have a pretty good offensive pedigree. Thing I liked about Bower is that he was a little like Tubberville - he wasn't afraid to fire someone if they weren't getting the job done. I think he went thru about 10 Coordinators during his time at USM.

Bower's a decent enough coach (nothing special but decent), but I can't stand the prick. And his role in getting us put on probation still pisses me off. The "MSU booster" in Hattiesburg that supposedly gave improper benefits to an MSU recruit is a personal friend of Bower's and had season tickets to USM games from what I heard. That said, stranger things have happened.

That Bower may indeed be interested in the OC job because he knows that Croom will more than likely be fired next year, and at the most, the year after. Considering this, he takes the OC job hoping and thinking that when Croom is fired he may be promoted to Head Coach. With his past coaching experience and MSU's knack for hiring the easy hire, this is a distinct possiblility. This is just food for thought, but it could also be a legit reason as to why Bower may consider taking the OC job if offered.

second thing, if it does he will be only responsible for the offense and that may be a good a good thing. I think Bower is a good coach, period, do I like him, not really, but if I have a chocie of what we have Woody, Borgus (sp) or Bower, I'd take Bower in a heart beat. He was a good QB in his days at Usm and he was a very good OC.

Borgus is probably the guy (from what I was told) IF Croom doesn't fall on his sword for his assistants, if he does all bets are off.

For reference, here are MSU's rankings during the same period. The biggest difference I see between us and Bower-led USM is the emergence of McCroomvey ball in 2004 and Fletcher stepping up at USM in 2006.

First of all, why would we want an OC who used to be a Head Coach at a Conference USA school who was pretty much known for their defense? This makes no sense to me and I think we should put the rumor to rest.

Second, do we really want USM's leftovers? Those trashy *@$+# already think they have grounds to rip on our football program because they play in a ****** conference and win more games.

The OC doers not matter. As long as Croom runs this program it will be run into the ground. Which is what is happening right now.

Bower is a great HEAD COACH who did pretty good with the talent he had. I can't believe Southern fired him but he is no fit to be an OC somewhere in the SEC.

Although not my first choice , i think it would be a step up from McCroomvey. At least Bower has played quaterback before and has a better understanding of developing a quaterback than an old, fat washed up center trying to develop them.

I also think Bower would be one of the few people that would be take the OC position knowing that Croom only has one more year before he is canned if things dont go right.</p>
