Message: <blockquote data-quote="Butler-eer" data-source="post: 131692991" data-attributes="member: 1661089">TVZ, i see your point on the shift and percentages.  What I don't understand is that the hitters can't put the ball on the short side of the shift.  Even in Colt leagues we were taught to hit to the opposite field.  That wasn't even the HS team.  As good as these guys are you would think that a left hander with a hard right field shift could punch one over the 3rd baseman or at least push it down the 3rd base line.  With a right handed pitcher there is only 1 player on that side of the field.  MLB tried to speed up the games by forcing batters to stay in the box.  Didn't help much.  Time to force pitchers to throw quicker.  Time to force managers to make pitching changes quicker.  3+ hours is too long for the game.  And this comes from an (used to be) avid baseball fan.</blockquote>
