I'm not BK, and I haven't see him, but from the Carino article on Mathis:

"2. Pikiell now has his backcourt of the future. Word is incoming freshman Geo Baker looked razor sharp during summer workouts. So sharp, in fact, that it would not be a surprise to see him start from day one. Like Baker, Mathis is another big guard (both are 6-4) with a versatile skill set and a whatever-it-takes attitude.

Baker actually handed out his first collegiate assist Friday: As the lone Scarlet Knight who knew Mathis well, he played a key role in the recruitment.

“Yeah, he recruited me real hard," Mathis said. "I see a bright future with both of us in the backcourt.”

I saw him once but they were only doing some drills so I couldn't see too much but he does have long arms and seems to pass and shoot very well. I think he is going to be a big plus.

Just watched some of his updated highlights. Wouldn't be shocked if he were our leading scorer at the end of the year.

Saw him 4 times this summer...

First...He can play 3 spots and is a talented kid

Second...He needs to get physically stronger

Third...I don't see a scenario barring injury where he isn't a starter beside Corey

Lastly... Tempered expectations are needed from a scoring standpoint.

Geo Baker as the starting SG.

I'm probably alone here, but, That would support my view and prediction that Williams is the perfect 6 man. Off the bench, but finishes games due to his defense, toughness and rebounding ability for a guard.

I see Thiam as the starting 3.

Couldn't Geo run the point and have Sanders play the shooting guard position? Sanders is not really a true point guard. Not saying he can't drive to the hoop and dish, etc., but i think if Geo ran the point; Corey would be able to get open and score more points and the court would open up for more spacing. Mike could also come play in a 3 guard set which I think would be deadly if his shot is on.

Tempered expectations from a "scoring point" is a lot more praise than I think people realize. That means he would be starting on the basis of his ability to impact the game through playmaking and defense. We know he can shoot, so he's not exactly someone you can leave open and expect bricks all day, even if his ability to drive is going to be impacted by lack of strength.

However, if his playmaking skills are good enough to let Corey play off the ball on occasion, that can only be a good thing. If his D is good enough as a freshman to start, it might become great very quickly.

He will not start for Steve Pikiell if he doesn't play defense. So if he does start, that's a good sign.

Very active and aware on defense from the film I have seen. I left thinking Geo Baker has a great future on the banks. It doesn't hurt he has the genetics of someone who can use his arms to get on perimeter passes, and cuts. Good for Baker. I hope he enjoys his time on the banks as much as we all did. The livi dining hall and take out...oddly some of my best memories of my senior year. Livingston campus as a whole.
