Biggest concerns for the season

The board is slow and frankly, I'm a bit... bored. So, I thought I'd like to pose the question for people to chime in with your ONE biggest concern for the upcoming season.

Ideally, go beyond "My concern is that we'll lose all 12 games" - I'm looking more specifically for a unit, a position, the offensive style, lack of depth at linebacker, etc.

I'll start.

For me, my biggest concern for the upcoming year is impatience of the fans. I believe we will be on a much better trajectory with this organized (and seasoned) coaching staff. But I'm fearful things may not start out that hot for the Huskers. I am extremely hopeful that the natives will keep positive vibes and support the team for what I believe will be a significant upgrade maybe by the end of the year or going into year two.

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that our LB unit does just fine and does well all year.

I can't pick just 1, I've got 2 big concerns:

-Riley/Langsdorf implementing too much of their passing attack offense.
-The offensive line.

Biggest concern for me is the DE position. McMullen came in way too huge, and was already somewhat slow, and I am still not sold on Gangwish. Hopefully they prove me wrong, but that is my biggest concern.

Good one. Probably the unit on defense with the most to prove.

My one big concern is the fans also.. I think things will start off slow and be a little rocky this year, but I am concerned that the fans will go into full on melt down mode.. the same guys predicting a 10-11 win season will be like your bi-polar ex-girlfriend ready to steer your car into the bridge underpass footing because you said her sister was kinda hot..

How is that even possible? It's unfortunate the previous staff fell flat on their face recruiting DE's so we don't have any one to push or replace him with.

Regression in special teams. Bo's personal attention to them last year (including recruiting) bore fruit, winning games and keeping others close.

AA's heart - who replaces that?

I think barring injuries ( especially lb ), we will have a Blackshirt D; able to win all games - BYU was a big concern early, due to their talented qb - those concerns are somewhat eased. Db's may surprise with interceptions. ....... The o-line could be the positive story of the year. We will be happy to run the ball and throw long balls to open it up. There will be a lot of short passes and screens in the backfield ; to the point of being like trick plays, this may help the qb's. And the Qb's need help; their story will be the story of the season. tOSU walked through the playoffs with good QB play. If TA is the same player; it will frustrate coach and lose some games. TA is outstanding at some things; lets hope we have a second, for when he is streaky. The pads are going on in practice, so its time to see what we really have at QB in regards to vision, progressions; you know the rest.

This is my biggest concern as well. If we lose games because the coaches are calling plays like we have Mannion at QB and not taking advantage of what I think is a very talented and deep group of RB's, that will drive me nuts.

Injuries and turnovers are always my biggest concerns every season but more specifically to this team id say getting pressure on the qb without blitzing. I love Collins and valentine but unless you have a suh or jj watt you're gonna have a hard time getting to the qb consistently with your only above average pass rushers being interior linemen. I think our corners are good enough to hold up in coverage for a bit but if we don't have to blitz to create pressure that opens up so many possibilities on defense.

I don't think we have to worry about that with Riley. His age helps him want to win now. I also think he knows this is about the kids and not about him. Those who force their system on a team are really saying, "Screw the juniors and seniors...this is about me and my program." That's not Riley.

1. QB: I'm hoping the coaches can squeeze a little more accuracy and better reads/progressions out of Armstrong. I said it last year and I still think it holds true, better QB play would result in probably 2 more wins per year if everything else stayed the same.

2. The entire defense: whole new system, which, in theory should be easier for the players but how it will actually translate on the field and how adjustments will be implemented during games will be interesting. I cringed when Bando said it "was like playing in high school again". I hope he meant something entirely different than what he said, because a "high school defense" is exactly what Chase Daniel called Cosgroves defense after lighting it up for 600+ yards in 2007.
Then again, holding Wisconsin to 400 yards rushing and 42 points would be big improvement over what Bo managed, so I guess a beggar can't be a chooser.

27 practices? No problem. Most big guys lose 10-15 normally in fall camp. They'll be on him.

I agree 110% about Ameer. Losing him is like losing Aaron Rodgers. He WAS the team. I don't agree overall about special teams. Our field goal kicker last year was weak. He or his replacement must improve. We have the same punter, so that will be fine and we have plenty of athletes to be solid on returns. That wasn't a priority for Bo.

Mel was right Bo helped out on special teams his last year; but what the heck, why so long to intervene on poor performance. DPE being an all-american in his first year; was a happy accident. Born and Bred is right; our punter was good and I believe he may be an AA this year. Our second place kicker is entering the fray and says he has hit from 65 yards; so our over 40 yard field goal game may take a big leap.

My biggest concern is we lose to BYU and Miami. If that happens Katy bar the door!

Head coach. The guy went 14-34 in the NFL. He inherited a team that went .500 his first year and then went 1-15 his second year and was shown the door after a third year (lost his last nine in a row his 3rd year). He also has a losing record in conference for his career in NCAA coaching.

On the bright side, he does have just a slightly better than .500 career record coaching in the Canadian Football League.
