Its hard to win B1G Ten games when the talent is no better than MAC level. The coaching staff still is unable to teach a half court offense with player/ball movement to create open shots from the corners and dribble drives to the basket.

I'm going to say 0. I don't see a team we can beat.
What a difference a year makes as last year we had the ability to beat everybody. You say Zero.

The following are games that should be competitive , might result in wins and are not automatic losses. Ohio State ( home ) on January 2; Oregon ( home ) on January 5 , Northwestern (home ) on January 11 ; Indiana( home ) on January 23; Nebraska ( home ) on February 7; Maryland ( home ) on February 15; Penn State ( home ) on February 18; Minnesota (away) on February 21; Washington ( home ) on February 24; Maryland ( away) on March 1 ; Penn State ( away) on March 8.
All of those opponents are not juggernauts and all have flaws. To think we will lose all 11 seems highly unlikely. Rather , we likely win 5-6 . The BIG 10 has 3 really superior teams in Michigan , Purdue and Michigan State and the rest have a lot to prove come conference time.

I could see us winning 5 to 7 of the remaining 18 B1G games, plus 1 or 2 of the 3 remaining OOC.

So, low end would be 11-20 and high end 14-17.

Plus a loss in the first round of of the B1G tourney.

It was at PSU, but they just took MSU to the wire. That doesn't bode well for when we play them.

After watching last night I am revising my number of Big wins to 1. They are absolutely brutal

We’ll win a few…if for no other reason than to have the Pike apologists come out for a few pages of why he deserves another year, he actually does run an offense, he got us to a tournament win in 10 seasons, and he just needs a chance to develop the mid major talent that he keeps bringing in, only to lose them if he succeeds.

Anyone with two eyes and a brain knew where this ship was headed two seasons ago, before a stroke of luck in Ace and Dylan bought him another year (and now two), to try to conceal being exposed.

If he doesn’t find 12+ wins he should be gone in my opinion.

I want to recite as I’d go 0-4 now

We will win go 1-9 on the road and 3-7 at home and that’s being optimistic

You’re a lot more forgiving than I am. He’s stealing money right now. His production is worth $100k but getting paid 3.5 million.

The way we’re looking he might not get to 12 in which case he should be sent packing - full stop. It sure doesn’t look great right now. He can’t (or at least, absolutely should not) survive a basement BIG season combined with a pair of losses to CC and Penn.

If he limits the WTF loss count to CC and sprinkles in 5-7 wins over BIG teams that would at least show steady progress from the extremely low starting point on the season. Don’t misunderstand - it still stinks but perspective matters. He did break a 30 year NCAA drought producing 3 straight NCAA teams and then next year one of the first teams out of the field. If the frosh were to show progressive flashes of development throughout the season and some combination of the others settle in too -he could conceivably at least then have a nucleus to build around. I’d still have my doubts longer term but my feeling is he’s built enough collateral where in that case it would at least be reasonable to give him one more chance.

He can’t lose to Penn and/or go like 3-17 in the conference though. There has to at least be a vision of a path forward even if doubtful. At least that’s my view.

You’re more optimistic than I am. I’m not seeing this nucleus. I see a bunch of freshmen with Derek Simpson-like upside. Lots of players have the potential to put up some good games followed by stinkers but other than Grant, who disappears regularly, I don’t see a single B1G player on this roster. No one knows their roles, and the rotations are no clearer than they were before the season started. The offense is disjointed, the defense stinks, and it’s complete chaos.

Oh again - your misunderstanding. I see nothing right now either. We look dreadful. If we look like we did vs SHU all season we won’t win 12 games. What I’m saying is he has the rest of the season to show substantial improvement with the current group. The reason I assigned a 12 win threshold to that is simply based on how the schedule lines up.

Here’s how I see it. There are really only 4 games in our next 13 that we won’t be heavy underdogs in and all of them are at home. Penn, Del State, NW and Oregon. Go 1-3 in those games and he should probably be fired midseason. 2-2 should indicate trending towards end of season dismissal. 3-1 demonstrates glimmer of hope - let’s see how the final 7 games and the BIG tourney go.

The team’s performance in those final 7 games are (or at least should be) huge factors in how we proceed. Look at that schedule. Pencil in a loss at Mich State, but look at the other games. He gets 4 games against PSU and Maryland, Washington at home and @ Minny. If he went 3-3 in those and found a way to win his opening game in the BIG tourney that, in my opinion, would qualify as showing progress.

It certainly isn’t looking like the team is on track right now to achieve any of this. In fact, losing to Penn appears to be a very real possibility. All I’m saying here - is 12 wins would essentially be the best of what I broke down above. Avoid loss in next two OOC games. Find a way to split Oregon and NW home games. Then play 500 basketball in those last 7 / conf tournament to find 4 more wins (any combo). The outlook in that case would be good enough at that point in time where it wouldn’t be laughable to give him one more shot. Anything worse than that and I just can’t even see a vision of what we might sell to recruits.
