But if Rhule leaves for State Penn, who do we go after?

Kiffin-Pipe dream
Kelly-Ask him if he’s sick of the bayou
Sumrall- Will be a hot commodity
Cignetti- Would $15 Mil a year get him here?
Key-Loves to run the ball
Newberry-outside the box candidate

In all seriousness Rhule leaving this year would be potentially catastrophic.

My wonderful wife, last nite..brought up something about Rhule I thought was very interesting (she's never been a huge football fan but roots for and watches Nebraska and sleeps with me who loves it so she plays along)..

...she watched an interview where he was being asked about why the coaching staff showed up to watch band practice...said his answer was really great and she's a band fan, and it won her over and she was really impressed with him after that...

....if he was to win here, and he's on track, I wonder if he'd leave for PSU. My wife sure seemed to think he loves it here and loves what comes with the job, that a lot of other coaches hate.

PSU fired Franklin because he couldn’t win the big one. So far Rhule has not won the BIG GAME. So hiring Rhule would be seen as a step back. I really like Rhule and believe he has our program headed in the right direction but he’s not going anywhere.

He shouldn't be their #1 but there also aren't any homerun candidates that will go to school that fires a guy who wins 70% of his games and just played in the national title. He won two playoff games as well, which shows good game preparation. A lot of great coaches struggle to beat top 10 teams, we had one as well here at NU for 25 years. Rhule could certainly be a lower option once the 20 schools looking for a new coach begin to fill their positions. And he would say yes in a literal heart beat. It is his alma mater, he knows the ad, and he loves the east coast.

Disgraced once successful coaches with substance abuse history are kind of a big commodity right now. We have one at OC. I assume he gets elevated if Rhule leaves.

It is fitting that we start getting a little momentum and then this distraction pops up on a short week... Rhule will no doubt be asked about this countless times by our media this week because they simply can't help themselves. Hope Rhule goes with a short and sweet response that ends the conversation for now.

Wasn’t Ohio State vs Notre Dame in last year’s national title game?

All he has to say is “I have no intention of leaving Nebraska”
What else is
He supposed to say even if he knows he’s going to Penn State?
Truth is if he wants to go there he should just go immediately, have Dana Holgerson be our interim HC, giving us plenty of time to search for our guy

That is not why they fired Franklin. Very few people out here in PA were calling for him to be fired after losing to Oregon. Grumbling? Yes. Sarcasm and cynicism? Yes. But demanding he be fired? Not many.
He got fired for losing to two sh$t teams in a row. It was after the UCLA loss that the “Fire Franklin” groundswell began.

The IU DC is Danny Lanning (I know he is NOT actually Danny Lanning). And rumor is he is looking and looking hard to leave and get his shot.

It's way more a possibility than what people think. He loves Penn St like we love Nebraska. He walked on there. He grew up a fan. He is close with the AD. If they call, we get to go find someone. My short list is Cignetti, McGuire, Kiffen or Fleck

UCLA since their coaching changes is NOT a **** team. They’re a scary team with Neuheisel calling the plays for that QB.

We know that now after they beat MSU. But when they beat PSU at 0-4 it shocked the fan base here to its core and began the “fire Franklin” Tsunami. Northwestern isn’t a horrible team either. But tell that to the people out here who really were expecting Penn State to win the Natty this year

I don't think Rhule would satisfy the PSU fanbase. He just hasn't dun enough yet.. I mean, they fired Franklin because they didn't think he could win the big game, so they replace him with a guy who's never won a big game? I don't see it.. UNLESS, they wait till season plays out to hire a coach, which seems unlikely, and Rhule practically runs the table...then it's a whole new ball game.

The only reason Rhule "sort of" made Husker fans happy is because it was after Frost and all the fake stories...and Trev hired him

Otherwise, Rhule basically came here with the same hype as Riley did.

PSU wouldn't want to deal with a year 1 or 2 rhule rebuild.I would think rhule is more of a plan c for psu.

Dana would be a no for me. 61-41 at WV. 31-28 at Houston.
I’m good with the WV record, I’m not sure but they probably haven’t done as well since he left. It’s the firing from Houston that would deter me. Is that what we would truly think would be our best choice ?

Maaaan, I don’t know about that anymore. It seems the days of coaches going somewhere for “a good fit” might be long gone.

Rhule’s character doesn’t seem to be in question. I believe that the only wild cards we cannot match are his alumni status and location - this is only coming from me, who lived on the east coast for a bit, and knows the GENERAL mindset of east coasters. I love Nebraska, literally because it is the opposite of the GENERAL snobbiness and lack of empathy expressed by those on the east coast.

I would like to think that the university knows what they have, both in coaching and revenue generation, so I think money won’t be the deciding factor, should PSU come this direction.

It does seem like many coaches these days are in it solely for the $, though I do not think Rhule is one of those. I suppose I just never say never, as college football is a figment of what it used to be and represent. Who knows…
