Per Pete Thamel.

College football season not dead yet. Looks like we should at least make it to the start of practice next week and then it's a week by week thing after that.

That’s all you can ask. Try to play if you can & cancel if you have to, but not before then. I really think the SEC has it right.

This flew somewhat under the radar yesterday, but I thought that Sankey’s comments about the SEC still working on a plan to play were highly interesting.

I mean, he basically stated what we’ve all been asking during the last 2-3 days. That is, nothing has changed for them during the last week, so there’s no reason to suddenly pull the plug now. The interesting part, though, is when he goes on to mention that he’d gladly review any critical data that the Big 10 has if they’d be so kind as to share it. Now, I don’t know exactly what they’ve been reading, but all signs point towards fear over lasting conditions following positive C19 tests, and if they do indeed have “scary” data, they’ve failed to share it with anyone. They made their decision in a complete silo in spite of the vast amount of mutual interest throughout both college and pro ranks.

I guess I say all this to say that this seems to be yet another indication that the Big 10 is nothing but a ***** conference that thinks they rule the world, and they don’t have one bit of concern for anyone outside of their 4 walls. I’ll say again that I’d enjoy nothing more than for the SEC, ACC, and Big12 to bury them over the next 12 months

The B1G is going to continue keeping their campuses open, athletics facilities open and football workouts going, despite cancelling the season. So is their argument that the only unsafe time for college athletes is during the actual games, and everything else can continue business as usual?

If they are still having athletes work out on campus and practice with the football program, how exactly are they decreasing their liability by just calling off games for the fall? How are the games themselves, which last 3 hours per week, considered dangerous, but it’s perfectly safe to keep working out and practicing for 20 hours per week?

Someone much smarter than me is going to have to help me understand this *** backwards logic... If it’s unsafe to play the games, how can you justify practice/workouts? Just shut everything down.

Yeah, I could feasibly buy the athletic stress argument IF they were cancelling all athletic activity. However, if they truly are going to proceed with workouts and standard practice, I really don’t get it. It truly does seem like they just slit their own throats, and they’re badly fumbling their explanations as to why

Yeah, I noticed that too. Sankey pretty subtly called the Big 10 and PAC 12 out by asking for them to share the information that lead them to cancel the season so early.

As well he should, if the medical information is that severe then I don't really see how the colleges can justify having kids on college campuses at all this Fall unless they can guarantee that EVERY person walking the campus is COVID-19 free. At least with the significant testing with the football players you can pretty much guarantee that players on the football field will be COVID-19 free.

One has to assume that their position is summed up as, "we can acceptably control what's happening on our campus, but we can't acceptably control what's happening on your campus."

Yeah, that’s all I can think of. But if you are going to a conference only schedule, even that doesn’t really hold much weight. All conference schools have the same testing/quarantine guidelines, using presumably the same testing service. All conference members are communicating results and progress amongst each other through the league office.

I guess that’s the reasoning, but even that doesn’t make much sense unless you REALLY don’t trust the other teams in the league.
