it amazes me at how awful we are at XC. I know the t&f program tries for a balanced team but with the xc talent in NJ we should be at least mid pack ....

How many scholarships are offered by Rutgers? How does that number compare to the top 11 teams?

Men’s track has a bare bones scholarship budget and unfortunately XC and track Scollies come from the same pool of money. So if you are going to give money to someone you want them to be versatile and be able to run multiple events in track and not just a 5K and be done for the meet. Get a miler/half miler and they can run 2-3 races so more bang for the buck.

Zero for Rutgers (or thereabouts)

Rutgers XC is on par with good D3 programs. But XC is different than most sports where the best D3 teams would smoke MOST D1 programs.

That said, Rutgers would be an Ok-but-not-great D3 program.

And the guys at Rutgers don’t seem to progress as much as guys do at places with better coaching.

(Not looking for a debate. Just providing information based on what I have seen up close.)

Thanks. That is what I suspected (few if no scholarships competing against fully funded programs). After the soccer and lax programs move out of the Hale Center and that gets expanded, I wonder if fully funding all programs becomes priority or if money will will first go towards paying back loans to the University.

I have no idea about your agreement with the Big 10 but Nebraska’s had it written in it that they would fully fund the NCAA max number of scholarships for all programs the school had. That had to be agreed upon to join, not after full share of money. NU was already doing it but it was talked about when joined. It was a non negotiable point.

For D1 teams XC and Track share scholarships, they are combined into one program basically. Last I heard Rutgers was a half funded program. MensTrack has a max of 12.6 scholarships, so I guess RU would have about 6 to split up amongst a bunch of guys.
