Who is the best team you’ve seen Tulsa play?

I’ll start with Phi Slamma Jamma.
In person?

‘93 Arkansas in the Sweet 16

Next would be the Utah team in ‘98 that went to the finals against Kentucky.

3rd would probably be the 2007-2008 Memphis team that went to the finals and lost to Syracuse in OT

I’ve only been very closely watching TU basketball for about 15 years now so mine is more recent...

The Derek Rose led Memphis team was the best opponent I’ve ever watched in person.

The most dominate individual player I’ve seen play against TU was Blake Griffin the season we played OU at the BOK center. I had a front row seat for that game and he was on a totally different level than every single other player on the court.

Yes, in person.

I was just a kid, but the early ‘70s Memphis team that played UCLA in the finals was pretty good too.
In person it would be the Arkansas team that won the title in the early 90s. Arkansas vs Tulsa at the convention center that year is the loudest, most exciting TU game I attended.

I agree with that. We had OSU that year as well but that Arkansas game was rocking the convention center

Based on how they played against us, I'd stay the 99-00 Fresno team that beat us three times. I believe we only lost 5 that year.

One of the greatest games I ever saw was TU vs Purdue at the Fairgrounds. It was in early December and TU led by Steve Bracey and Dana Lewis beat the Boilermakers 100-98. My memory seems to be that it went to OT and the Fairgounds was unbelievably loud. The year before Purdue beat TU by 3 and was led by Rick Mount. Mount averaged 35 pts. per game in 69-70. A couple games later TU traveled to LA and played the Bruins and lost by 20 or so points. Quite a schedule.

Another memory of that game is that after the basketball game TU played North Texas in football on one of the coldest nights ever. TU won that game as well.

Forgot to mention that these games were in December of 1970. Anybody else there?

Indiana State with Larry Byrd.
Damn. I lose. Every team pales in comparison to any team Bird played on. Such a great all around player. And one great player can carry a team a long long way.

That Memphis team had just been ranked #1 in the nation when they came to town. The crowd was awesome even though it was on a weekday night. I vividly remember Derek Rose airballing a free throw and we were only down 4 at the half. They rolled over us in the second half but we still held them to their lowest point total of the entire season that night.

Best team I saw in person play TU - Memphis team with Derrick Rose.

Best individual player/performance - Courtney Alexander (Fresno) at TU. Unreal. Hersey Hawkins had a couple of stupid games vs. TU as well.

Best game atmosphere - TU vs Utah at the Convention Center (‘97) and TU vs Fresno at the Reynold’s Center (‘00).

Runner Up - TU vs KU at the Reynold’s Center.

The Oscar Robertson led Univ. of Cincinnati teams from '57 to '60...

Interesting choice...I thought the Cincinnati team the following three
years were the best I have seen...They won the NCAA in '61 and
'62, and they had the lead late in the finals against Chicago Loyola
in '63. Thacker and Yates were the guards, and Hogue, Wilson and
Bonham, were the front line...Great defensive teams that reminded
me of the Bill Russell teams from Frisco.....

Oscar's teams never won it all....They couldn't beat Ohio State, who
was also great at the time....

I guess any Mo-Valley game at the Convention Center vs Bradley, Fresno or Wichita State-I've hated the Shuckers for a long time. BTW: I'll never forget a dunk by E. Coley that went through so fast & smooth that it bounced straight up for almost 15 feet. Thought the CC light fixtures were in trouble-don't recall opponent.
