Bench is a disaster

I know Mag has had injuries - but he’s a non factor on offense and not the defender Mathis was.
Miller can’t shoot or have an assist.
Reiber haas had moments but can often be a non factor as well.
Hyatt has fallen far short of expectations.
Palmquist no comment
And of course, Jones
Pike is lauded for player development. I’ll give him that to a degree. But we were gassed last night. And that’s in large part to the failure to have any kind of consistency off the bench.

Hard to argue with anything you said. Last night was the first time I missed Mathis.

Mag and Hyatt are disasters.

Hyatt doesn't pass and Mag is the most clueless human I've ever seen on a basketball court. He's just energy

I watched about 3 or 4 LSU games last year and I don’t know what happened to Hyatt. Amazing regression this year. Not even a serviceable bench player any longer. Turnover prone, no handle and doesn’t seem to understand game situations.

In a two point game there were lots of reasons for the loss. The bench failing to score was a obvious reason along with Notre Dame making more foul shots.Notre Dame scored 58 points in the paint was a big differensce. The Rutgers defense including rebounding was poor all game. The starters were exhausted in OT after playing more than 40 minutes. The failure to inbound the ball with a two point lead was a crushing blow. The team shoild be commended for 12-8 league record and a four seed in the Big Ten Tournament. The performance of Baker,Harper and McConnell was outstnding.

I kept thinking about Young last night. That was the type of game we could have used him…but with a bench that was even semi developed we’d have been fine.
The bench is a big reason we were up 5 in the first half.

In spite of several tactical mistakes,, we still had several chances to win, and we lost the game because we didn't execute. Its sports...that happens

You can go back to being a d1ck now

Double OT, 50 minutes of basketball, and ZERO points off the bench…. Not many teams can win a game like that. Hyatt and Mag had a few open looks too. Lack of bench is a lack of talent

That’s coaching. These guys are not getting the minutes and don’t have the experience or confidence. They can all play better man D than Paul. Pike ate timeouts instead of making defensive substitutions. It’s the same with Geo ball at the end. Same thing last year.

Hyatt played a good defensive game. If you combined his defense with Cliff’s offense into one player we win the game by 20. Cliff was just a terrible match up in the post. It was as if he wasn’t there at all on defense.

Would also add that Hyatt’s block gave us the momentum to close out the 1st half.

That was a coaching decision. They play to stop the 3. No one sag to help or just disrupt. Not easy to stop one on one ball 5 feet from the basket.

Hyatt wasn't terrible last night. Had some pluses and minus... a net 0.
I've been a big Reiber supporter, but he was an absolute disaster last night. Pike couldn't play him.

Yes - we played to prevent the 3. Cliff was not able to play that way successfully. Hyatt was. Blame it on that - perhaps we should’ve adapted the defense. But credit should be given to Hyatt for his defensive effort. When he was in we were able to get stops. Unfortunately he erased the good he did on defense on the offensive end. His ball handling, decision making and shooting all very poor.

I’ll add that hyatt’s offense was more frustrating because it was a game where we didn’t need him to score yet he kept trying to create for himself. Our 3 seniors were all shooting well. Get them the ball. Had he played like Miller on offense it probably would’ve even been good enough.

The most obvious plan for next has to. R bringing in 3/4 starting quality transfers. When he could sell playing time pike did well in portal. I think it’s only time to reallly worry if the portal trends in the wrong direction this offseason or Pike comes out and says he likes his team and doesn’t add a starter in the portal.

Yes. We need to hit on at least 2 proven BIG caliber players. Remind me - if Caleb or Ron were to return - would they count against the schollie limit?

Disagree with your take on his offense. It is no worst than PM. Everyone complains we don’t get enough out of the bench. Look at the minutes. How do you expect the bench to contribute when they are not on the court.

Paul didn’t have a great game either but Paul had some nice assists and he’s a better perimeter shooter. Ball handling is night and day. Hyatt isn’t close to as good as Paul with his handle. The less he dribbles the better.

Also - there is a time and place for offensive player development. This game just wasn’t it.

Paul didn’t have a good offensive game. I’m not sure what your point is. He made some poor decisions but playing our ball handlers was important to keeping the offense going. If you think Hyatt is a comparable ball handler to Paul, then I don’t know what to tell you. The team played well on offense except during the stretch with Mag and Hyatt taking all those shots - even with Paul having those careless turnovers.

Reiber had no idea where he was on the court last night, unbelievable.
He looked totally confused, his body language was screaming “I have no idea where I’m supposed to be”

Just saying that the bench is mismanaged by Pike. Paul’s minutes should have been distributed to the bench. Can’t blame the bench when they don’t get the minutes.

Love Paul, but that inbounds play killed us. We would have probably won in regulation.
