Refreshing compared to that dip$h!t Cronin at UCLA....

Fran & Cronin definitely will snap at reporters.

Ben is a serious guy but he's respectful, too. Even if it's a dumb question, he'll answer it.

And he knows he's dealing with kids; that timeout where he simply said to concentrate was hilarious & went viral. Fran would have been screaming and in players' faces.

Jan could steal a page on how Ben gets guys to buy in and use it with ER if not too late. Ben's by far the best coach we've had in the last 40 years. Hope he goes down as best ever.

I just hope he has the money to compete for players (I think that is the only barrier he has at the moment).

We need more size but those players are expensive.

The funds will increase.... hopefully to a level to REALLY compete.

You get a great Return on Investment with a coach like Ben. He's going to get every ounce out of those players they get.

Complete opposite feeling that we had in the second half of Fran's tenure, where it felt like a lot of players were underperforming. Why drop a bunch of $$$ on players, if the coach isn't getting much out of them!?

You and Fran both made good points here. I think Jirak will develop into a very serviceable center just not ready for prime time yet. Early on Ben said Trevor represents the kind of player they like to get in the program. I think Ben can find big men hungry to develop and play winning basketball and that may well not come from the portal. Ben seems a master in putting a team on the court where the whole seems greater than the sum of the parts.

When a big name school fires their head coach I just hope they don't offer Ben something he can't refuse.

Clown fans said Matt Campbell would never leave Ames; well, Penn State offered a much bigger salary, a much better NIL budget, a lot more resources overall and a better recruiting territory.

I know Ben was born in Iowa City & was/is a Hawkeye fan. But, as the saying goes, "never say never."

Ben is on record as saying that the only way we are going to get good big men is to develop them internally and I think he's right. We don't have the level of resources needed to be able to bring in portal big guys. We're going to have to identify them in high school and develop them.

Agreed. It's also the reason a program like Iowa needed to find a elite coach that WANTS to be here. I think we have the guy. It's hard to contain my excitement with where we are heading!!

There are a lot of really good players out there. You bring in the right 3 star and a couple 4 star guys and coach WINNING basketball... The snowball is rolling downhill and you better look out

Makes me wonder which of his assistants gets a head coaching job. Imagine the stuff they are learning from Ben.

Take with a grain of salt but Duke may have an opening if the rumors about Scheyer taking the Bulls job is true
