Will be interesting to see how this evolves. Their attendance is still horrific even though Beard has been very aggressive in trying to get fans in seats and has pulled every gimmick in the book to do so. I'm sure covid is one reason as well as the level of competition, but not all of it.

Also, talk radio down there is saying the brand of basketball is not much fun to watch.

I guess he has a very small arena coming next year, so he will probably have no problem filling it.

I don't see him making them a perennial power, but could obviously be wrong.

Makes plenty of sense, but you are free to ignore it. Or feel free to trash it and I'll just ignore you. It's an easy decision, both ways.

Boring brand of basketball, no perennial power IMO.
I don't care about Beard one way or the other but the argument that not many at home games proves a fanbase isn't happy makes no sense when it's hurt us and the rest of the sport as well.

Oh, I see, we had like 20 people last year, while we were going 9-16, that thought Beard would be a good option here at UK (not my take), so we have to start a thread showing that attendance at Texas… Texas, a football school, that doesn't give a shat about basketball, is way down in attendance… .during a huge spike in covid.

I thought it was odd that there was a 'Beard' thread, but now I understand why it was started.

UK is a basketball blue blood and our attendance numbers aren't much better.

No man you are twisting it. I said talk radio isn't happy with the brand of basketball. They didn't say one thing about attendance, that was my comment and simply an observation, seeing the he's worked so hard to fix it.
You aren't making a bit of sense.

I see some Cal haters have already come running to hump the thread with their negativity. LOL, I'm off to hit some golf balls. Shot at 81 from the tips yesterday but the irons aren't quite up to snuff. Playing again tomorrow and need to be in the 70's so as not to lose money, so gotta clean that up. Bye now.....Boring brand of basketball, no perennial ower.

So, we go 9-16 and it's RR members being chicken little and negative. But at Texas, talk radio isn't happy so faaar Beard, per some rando on Rafters? Seems reasonable. Wonder who OP used to be, on here?
Tbf winning a title at a place gives you some leverage, aka Cal.

Beard doesn’t have such luxuries and Texas is sucking in both basketball and football. And their AD is probably under a lot of heat.

Beard and Sarkisian are under the Guillotine there for sure, first year or not.

I wouldn’t want either job.

Lol. You forget Texas threatens to secede every time they don’t get their way. And then nature reminds them what would happen if they tried to make it on their own (see last year).

Texas is its own breed of stupid and crazy.

Take your political vomit somewhere else.

PS, the Texas head of Agriculture said the money for upgrades has been getting diverted to renewables AND that they had a storm easily as bad back in the 80's that lasted twice as long, no renewables and not one single problem. But I guess you know more than he does because MSM and Google told you so? GTFO

Wasn’t meant to be overly pol at all.

Texas has always been weirdly independent and it’s usually bit them in the butt. We have a coalition of states for a reason- to have each other’s backs.

Funny how you guys take their opticians at face value though (because they are there on the ground- which I partially favor to) but when our staff and coaches say something it can’t be trusted and fans know better.

Just playing Devils advocate.

Aside from Austin (which is a batcrap crazy liberal college town), Texas is a fantastic state. Frankly, I haven't heard anything of them "threatening to secede" but, whatever pushes your agenda I guess.
As far as Beard goes, it's his first season there. It may take some time for him to get things rolling. I think he might still be on Barnhart's list of replacements for Calipari but, probably not at the top. Personally, I hope Scott Drew is #1 and yes, I do believe he would jump if the UK job comes open.

Oh they bring it up often. It’s never serious though.

I have no agenda. I just think some of the things they do are just a little…much.

But we digress.

I think Beard gets another year. But it may be all he gets. Sark is already on the hot seat. You can’t lose to KU at home for the first time in 50 years and make your boss happy. For sure.

1 more year? Beard will be at Texas as long as he wants to be there.

Sark on the hotseat? Not only is he not on the hotseat they flat love the way he is going about things. With the transfer coming in from OSU and him bringing in vastly better talent already, he's there for quite sometime.

Your knowledge of the state of Texas and sports seems to be about ZERO,

You really think so? If he performs sure.
If he’s mediocre? I don’t see him staying long.

UTex doesn’t like the money they are losing. We’re talking about one off the most powerful Athletics programs in the country. And since the early 2000s their influence has gone to not much.

Their boosters aren’t liking that. I put Texas fans right behind us in terms of “craziness”. They are tired of being an after thought. And while football is akin to God down there, they don’t like their basketball to be plain.

Beard will have a leash. But how long remains to be seen.

They are 9-2. That's like 27-0 at UK to them. You and I are from different planets. Good luck.

Honestly, do you even do any research before posting this stuff?
There is literally no way beard is gone after only 2 years. How long was Shaka there?
You think Texas basketball is a major concern for a school preparing to join the SEC? really? LOL!
All efforts in Austin are focused on football right now. As with most Power 5 programs (including UK), that's where the $$$ comes from. Beard will be there a minimum of 5 years, even with average results. maybe longer.
Football in Texas is on a whole 'nother level from most states. That makes Texas a perfect fit in the SEC. They eat, sleep and breathe football in that state.

Attendance is down for many reasons. COVID rules, COVID fear and my personal favorite of I can watch at home in a super comfortable environment that costs much less but is a very favorable experience.

About as much research as any other social media poster these days.

I’ll prepare a dissertation next time. My bad.

Thread clearly wasn't started to argue with anyone, and I haven't. But the same old clowns turned the thread into a scrum. PS, show me where you ever had an issue with a stupid "Fire Cal" thread? I'd love to see it so I can take you off of the hypocrite list.
