Was thinking about this last night. I know we like to complain about not getting the one and done guys but honestly, it appears to me that NU's basketball cred has slowly been climbing with recruits. I'm not saying Miles is the be all end all, but we've been getting some high school guys that we couldn't have dreamed of 10 years ago. Miles has followed the same formula he used at his previous stops. It's going to be interesting to see if the improvement continues if he stays. Everybody wants that big time 6-9+ guy with an NBA body but man there's not many of those around.

You're probably right, it just FEELS like every team we play has one!
Maryland does for sure. Most of the other bigs in the B1G are guys that teams are building. Actually Roby is one of those guys. IMO, he's the guy on our roster most likely to play in the NBA because of his size, game and athleticism and there were some real question marks about him physically coming out of high school. Miles did a helluva job landing him. There just aren't that many of them around. It's why you see big guys on NBA teams with so many holes in their games. Can't shoot. Too skinny. Can't defend if they can shoot. etc.

Agreed. I'm only a casual fan, but I've seen this team on a steady incline since Tim was hired. Watson has improved this season. Probably confidence, more than anything. I like Allen-a lot. Heiman is a big guy but he needs to add about 50lbs. Tim is an easy guy to root for. Is there anyone who doesn't like him as a person?

Now having said that, as I look around college basketball, I see the best teams have a dominant big man. Has Nebraska ever had a low post game? Not that I can recall. It also affects rebounding on both ends. We throw a bunch of guards & forwards out there, and do well with that lineup but having a guy like Maryland's #23-Bruno Fernando, would make a world of difference on our team.

I think Tim is building something here and I hope he can continue to do so. If we can make it to the tourney and win a couple, perhaps that will be the impetus for a big guy to pull the Nebraska hat come signing day and that should make it easier, from here on out, to convince big guys to play for the N.

Other than Tshimanga, I don't think we've had a true low-post player since Miles has been here. Andre Almeida and Aleks Maric are the only other low-post players I can think of in the last decade or so, and they were Collier/Sadler recruits.

Even a Leslee Smith would make a world of difference this year. Was a bit short, but he could throw his weight around in the post at least.

Heiman has filled out some, he looks much more muscular than high school, but that’s saying little.

Problem with him is he is taking in a ton of calories already, not sure his body is meant to fill out much more.

He can get stronger and probably will naturally as he gets older. A redshirt year this year would have been good for him but we're just too short handed in the paint. He moves really well and has good ball skills for a kid that tall so hopefully he can grow in to a legit center for us. My brother-in-law came to college at about 6-2, 180 and left at 6-5 and about 240. If Heiman can put on 30-40 lbs of reasonably good weight, look out.. We need to get the Unicameral to lower the drinking age to 19 again.

Big man / low post game? Chuck Jura, Dave Hoppen, Rich King way back in the day. The dude from Australia. The dude from Norway/Sweden. Unfortunately, our best low post game historically comes from local players. There aren't that many around - and it has been a struggle to get them when they are. The foreign born big guys have been hit or miss (lots of bricks thrown up from point blank range). Let's hope Miles can get true post players, but a decent back-up plan is for the lengthy, athletic type of athletes that can play multiple positions.

IF Miles had been at a D-1 school back when Colton Iverson graduated and went to play for Tubby, Miles would have likely gotten that 7 footer according to his dad. We just don't have the population base to produce that many big guys. Need a few more Dutch folks in the state.
