Atlanta Dinner Recommendations

Just got a text from my best friend growing up, great guy and a huge LSU fan. Turns out that after having a few beers, he goes to order 2 tickets for he and his wife for the Peach Bowl. He ends up making a mistake and orders 4 tickets instead of 2. He'd like for me and my son to come over for the game.

Interested in all options from fine dinning to a hole in the wall.

For hole in the wall type of places, check out Gio’s Chicken and/or Antico’s pizza. They are adjoining joints in West Midtown just a block off 14th. I did not know could be so tasty until I had Gio’s, and Antico’s is real neopolitan pie.

So many options, depending on your taste.

For me,

Favorite upscale: Canoe

Favorite burger: Holeman and Finch Gastropub

Favorite spot for beer & food: Brick store pub or Porter Beer Bar

The Kimball House is the best meal I’ve ever had in Atlanta. I would put it up against anything from NYC or elsewhere.

Gunshow is one of my favorites, pricey but fun atmosphere and lots of variety, best description is like a high end tapas restaurant.

KR Steakbar, then ask to go to the Bureau when finished with dinner. If on the weekend it is normally open and they’ll take you through the kitchen. Can also go through black door with red light to left of main entrance. Really good food but not cheap. Anis Cafe & Bistro

Can also try the Painted Pin for a unique adult bowling experience. Nothing risqué just adults only after 5 since drinks are flowing

Just there and a friend recommended South City Kitchen (3 locations).
It was great. Eat on high tops in bar...go early and no reservations required. We ate at Vinings location.
You’re welcome!

Agree that south city kitchen is pretty good. For steak, Rathbuns is consistently one Of the best steaks Ive eaten anywhere in the country. I travel a lot and I’ve still only found one place that might be better but not by much.

I know this isn't a dinner option but since we are on the topic of Atlanta food, The Varsity may be the most overrated place in the entire US. I would rather have a cheese burger from Wendy's or a hot dog from Love's Truck stop than eat at that place. I get it that it' a gimmick,
but the food is not very good...

Reviewed some of the other comments, and most of these are good, but a few comments/suggestions:

I love Highland Tap, and I go every couple weeks, but Rathbun's is better, and I'd go Kimball House over either
Two Urban Licks is good, usually, especially if you're eating with four and willing to share
Antico is good pizza, Varuna Napoli is another good option - there's a Varuna Napoli in Krog Street Market, which has lots of food options
Fox Bros is my favorite BBQ, but Fat Matt's is good too. Fox Bros has a bigger menu, Fat Matt's is super chill and live music every night
Gio's is pretty new, and I haven't been yet, but everyone loves it
Vortex has good burgers but wouldn't be my first place to eat.
Cooks and soldiers and mary macs are good.
South City Kitchen and JCT Kitchen are both good too.
Canoe is solid, but you can eat similar meals in any decently sized city (e.g. Jackson)

---

If your son drinks, go to JCT Kitchen or the Optimist (seafood) or taqueria del sol on the west side then go to northside tavern.
Kimball House is a great meal if you're going a little fancier, and Decatur is a cool area to walk around in.
If you're like all the sixpack posters in secret santa, just go to fox bros and gorge yourself
